Porsche 944 Real World Market Price

I have noticed lately that 944 asking prices have gone way up, and not just turbo or "S" models. Are these cars actually selling that high now? I have seen a couple base models in the $20K+ range. whats the actual market range for these now a days?

A few years ago I attended a Hagerty Porsche valuation clinic at one of the large auction houses. It was very informative. Within that meeting the panel there unanimously said that the 944 (all versions) would gain traction in the market & get expensive shortly (because the up & coming buyer pool admired the 944 in their youth). They agreed it was the next appreciating classic. They were right (I also see the 914 doing the same).

I have a 944S that I have owned for nearly 20 years. I like them too.

They sure are along with all used cars

Would you rather by a 100,000 mile plus 10 year old Honda Civic for $15K or a mint well sorted early 944 for $12K

You aren't kidding about the 914! We went from one or two at the annual Porsche show here in Portland, ME to 7-10. Pretty cool to see them getting some well-deserved attention these days.

944's of all kinds are definitely trending upwards. I itched my lifelong dream of owning a 944 Turbo last July, as I saw prices shooting up and didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to own and enjoy one. Although I didn't land a Turbo S, I was pleasantly surprised to find a local, well-kept '86 with choice options, but some deferred maintenance and a color change for a very reasonable price.

After having watched other dream cars appreciate outside of my comfort zone for entry price (such as the E30 M3, 911 Turbo, etc.), I wasn't going to miss out on the 944.

I don't know, I see strong money on sites like BAT, but then when a similar car is listed on my local craigslist for 10k it sits, and sits, and sits. Same for 996 etc. There's an ultra low mileage 996 on my craigslist for 26k right now. I know it would bring mid-30's on BAT. So I'm not sure what the disconnect is.

There is NO DOUBT a price jump for the 944 but it seems to be primarily the 951 or extremely low mileage original examples. Well used examples being sold by teenagers haven't changed much. Ultimately people priced out of the air-cooled market have to go somewhere.
