Recent BAT auctions tell it all regarding SCs vs g50s

'79 SC hammers down for $91K 6/1/21. An '88 g50 3.2 with similar miles and condition hammers down in the low 60s 6/4/21. What gives here?

Individual auctions become marketplace statistics and indicate current market parameters but do not dictate results of specific future auctions…..

Example you cited a $60,000 result for a G50 but overlooked a $95,000 result for a 3xx,xxx mile 84 Carrera…..

no doubt there is an acceleration but it is broad based…

Kansas, if you have such a big hard on for the SC, I was talking to Macroni just the other day about a project car over here saying I don't need another project. I posted some pix of three cars I looked at on my thread last summer. He recommended I consider flogging it as a project car. Wine colored targa. Thanks by the way Macroni! I didn't get time to say that the other day.

SC/Carrera on BAT

A lot of strong prices for sure but buyers still need to be careful what they are bidding on . Last week BAT had an SC in the wine color that my shop inspected about a year ago and the engine had major issues including at least 1 broken head stud . The car was sold to a dealer in PA who cleaned it up but made no mention in the auction about replacing head studs . Unfortunately the new buyer probably wont be to excited about a $65k purchase ( buyer fee +transport included) and the additional mechanical repair cost to make that car right . Im sure theres alot of other cars that are going thru these auctions with well known issues that are not high-lighted . Buyers definitely need to pay attention .

jcvass is spot on. We see many here as well that will require much work/money to make right. Many other issues go unnoticed during the 1 to 1.5 hour given to inspect the car.

Kansas, you really are the 911SC cheerleader! Love your enthusiasm for them. Tail may be wagging the dog a little as we all convince ourselves we have unobtainium. As prices go up, you have the usual Porsche pundits on the socials weighing in saying “these things are the best” and that drives prices higher still.

I really hope they chill. I stand to benefit from prices going higher but I’ve got mates that are quickly getting priced out. I’d rather good cars find their way into their hands.

Besides what the others have related above, very relevant points and the obvious that BAT is what it is, just playtime for many, where maintaining the good vibes reign supreme hence the needed caution before extrapolating to the "real world", I'll wager in that latter environment that you can buy an SC any time of the day if you were to offer anywhere near 6 figures.

Oh, one more thing Kansas, I don't see the plural or was that before your ....horrors ... edits ?

Well, the SC is the Super Carrera, the G50 model - just a Carrera.

Kansas, I was only kidding about the large hard on thing! Anyway, if you have interest, coach me on this project car idea. I don't have enough time now, but maybe in 2 months I can take another detailed look at the car during summer vacation. Since you know them well and the market I trust your judgment. I said once I'd never owned one, but I remember now I did, yet for only weeks back in 1999? I bought a silver stolen recovered one through ins. co that had no title and some interior parts missing for 3K. A fire extinguisher had been set off inside to hide fingerprints. I got the motor started and sent it to AUS within a couple months. I could use some advice on SC for I have really no experience there, that is if you have interest to dialog about it.

Is it just me? I can't find either one of these auction results.

Haha, the buyer was literally sitting inside the car at the dealership bidding away.

Didn’t think blue paint made a $23k difference.

I was only half joking ...

... the guy who won let another blue SC slip through just last week or so, so wanted it bad and we all know what happens when that's the case. Fun stuff in that playground.

Hate references to BAT listings without any pictures for point of reference, the OP's SC in discussion

The lost puppy

OK last post in this thread for me ...

Safety first !!!!

Send PM if any questions.
