1989 Carrera coupe value

Very nice, original paint 1989 coupe with factory spoilers. Guards red over black. Currently 95k miles.

A well respected Porsche dealer described the car as an extremely well cared for 1989 Carrera Coupe with abundant records for last 3 decades. All original throughout with correct 89 Fuchs, no modifications. All books and keys. An impressive 3.2 coupe that holds its own with even extremely low miles examples.

Since my ownership, about 8k in going through all mechanical systems, rebuilt suspension, etc. Very low oil consumption, about a quart per 3k of spirited driving change interval. Minor reversible mods, cat delete, sport muffler, Wong chip, Prototipo, 917 knob and euro tail lights.

Not for sale, but with continued rising values, trying to understand what's a reasonable insurance value?

$75k
I never much pay attention to what “dealers” say about a car, but based on what you’re saying, I think that this is an accurate number, maybe even a little low. It’s an ‘89 so may be upper 70s.

Research for yourself on BAT. You will get facts (prior similiar sales) not opinions, as you will here.

I’d honestly cash in now. These are insane values and surely won’t hold up once demand declines due to most being out of reach for most people. Especially when you can get a really nice 997.2 and newer boxster and Cayman for similar money.

Kansas, for some reason I can't quote your post...

Not sure why I should cash in? I own fun cars for entertainment, not investment. The rise in values makes it "easier" to enjoy as intended. My query is simply to get a more tempered view than BAT. I've owned two 997.2 Carrera S and have little interest in the Cayman / Boxter.

Like I said previously, mid $70s. And that’s a “non-BaT” estimate. And yes, I agree, cars are not goods investments. The only reason I mentioned cashing in, is because your query was about values, so I assumed you were thinking about selling. However, I don’t see how rising values would make you enjoy your car more. Makes me more worried about something happening to mine.

^ This for sure. I have a 1987 Coupe, Venetian Blue, upper 70's mileage, basically the same work and mods as OP. 7 and 8 period correct Fuchs (still have 6/7s) Dave Mason shifter, 370cm proto, h4's, redone suspension to stock sport, powdercoated etc. All original parts in boxes and in an afternoon anyone could put back on. Needed this discussion for insurance, but it makes driving them harder IMHO or at least more nervous. Oh, mine has black leather sport seats too.

Regardless of value, an 89' will hold it's value long term, better than many others. I think it's a lovely specimen and something to hold on to in any regard.

If you can doc. the 95k miles, that helps IMO.
The bidders may still feel a rebuild will be in order in the near future.
I think $65-75k.
If you can get the cat back in it will open the CA market. IMO - closer to stock the better in terms of selling price. E.g. steering wheel/etc.

Query was only to get some more data points for insurance. I haven't updated my policy in a while.

If you didn't just buy your car, you are well in the money. It may be counter intuitive, but with the rising values I can probably put another 100k miles on and still break even so why not enjoy the hell out of it? (the photo is from Luft7, about a 1400 mile weekend)

Yeah, I have documentation and all the original stuff. Car was bone stock when I bought it and made some minor mods to my preference.

Is your insurance declared value? I think $70k-75 is a reasonable figure.

Very desirable. Last of the real 911’s. If it was mine you’d need at least 100k to buy it from me.
