76 930 trans value

Extra trans. Some have said it is special with the 3 stars on the trans ID. I had it inspected ( needed nothing) but have not used it since. I was going to include it as a spare with the 79SC but may sell it separately.

Even though transmission stuff is my niche, I’m not in the loop on if these have gone crazy or not. That said, $7-9k. Start high and be negotiable.

Never heard of or seen the 3 star thing. Maybe after knows. Or you could PM Van, since he never comes here.

Matt thanks, not sure who Van is. Do you have his contact or PM info?
I will be talking to Faapgar soon so he may have some insight about the 3 stars. When I had the trans inspected it also was noted it had larger carrier bearings and altered speedo port.

In the past some commented the three stars trans might be for a 934-935 which would affect it's value. History is it came out of a race car long ago.

Are these gear ratios stock?

Larger carrier bearings is 935. And yes, that would make it 2-3 times my price. The ratios are still street car stock. Nothing special or motorsports based there.

Van goes by username VZ935. He owns several real ones and has a huge pile of era parts. He's a wealth of knowledge, but mostly posts in the 930 forum and the classifieds. If you PM him he's very responsive, and if you let him know this thread is here, he might pop in.

Doesn't appear to be special, not so sure about the ** - is it LSD or open diff?
Your paper says its a 77, you said its a 76.. shouldn't be different although its different from a 78 which you stated you had planned to include it with in a sale.

76 -77 is short bell housing, where-as 78 > 88 would be long bell housing. All of them 4spd. We used to use these trans' (or G50 w/shortened housing) to put a turbo motor in an SC or Carrera etc.. because the shorter housing allows them to fit without issue/mods.

Typical value $5 -$7k.. or as Matt stated, go for $10k see where it ends-up ... who knows these days!

onboost, Yes it is LSD. The stars are still a mystery along with the larger carrier bearings which Matt mentioned were used in a 935 trans.

This photo of the casting shows 8 - 76

The etched # in the photos seems to show as a 77 so it was etched in 77 but case was cast in 76??

not to highjack... but i found a complete tool kit from my old SC while going through some bins in the garage today and wondered what it might be worth? The car was converted to a racecar so the tool kit was stashed away and fogotten about until today.

I've also have a I.O. Port rollcage mounted seatback brace if anyone can use it. I'll send it for shipping cost..

Thanks for looking.
