…and people say the ‘60s was the time for peace, love and drugs - I think the 80s and 90s also had a few people on the edge…

My first Porsche was very nearly a 959 coupe replica back in the late 80s. Luckily I took my Uncle with me to see it before I parted with all the money I had and a large chunk I didn’t. He pointed out all of the filled over rust and all sorts of naughtiness (like the ‘builder’ using nails to keep parts of the wings on).

These days, I’m sure most Porsche people would tell me, ‘your only taste is in your mouth’, but would have been the cats ‘meow’ back then.

I went to see another stock (uncle approved) 911 after that - a light yellow 71 T. Looked amazing but was a long hood as short hood cars were way out of my league.

The owner managed to put it backwards in a field showing me ‘what it’ll do’, which put me off Porsches for years… funnily, when we got back from the test run (I didn’t drive it) and me helping him push it out of the field, he said something like ‘I’m guessing you probably aren’t interested then?’

I’m trying to figure out a late 80s 959 replica when the car came out in 1989…

Sorry M1, I had to break my promise just to ratify this. Didn't the 959 come to production in 1986? I remember that very clearly, my last year in Dallas.

Actually my last year in Dallas was 85' and I left, but the 959 was already in the werks. We talked about it on the front drive of the Westin Galleria, where I kept my euro 71E in one of my hold spots as a doorman.

Best wishes,

Forrest Gump

959 started in 86.

My friends older brother worked at a shop in Rancho Cordova converting late 70’s 911’s to 959’s in 88 & 89. They did a lot of cars from what I remember.
A few times he would get to bring them home before conversion.
My first memory of setting in a Porsche is I front of Casey’s house. 75 +/ - Irish Green Targa with Black interior.

Forrest Gump?

You were probably only 12 or 13 years old. How could you remember that?

Only 12 or 13 when the 959 was all over the cars mags, how could you forget that? Like a Farrah Fawcett poster, will never forget.

Something really off about the look of this...like you could pull off the outer body/conversion like an oversized "carapace," and the original car would still be underneath! And what's with those wheels...with the lugs and the spinners? Just weird...but maybe if the bids don't go that much higher it may be worth it for what still lays beneath the exterior?

She's a mutt anyway you look at it. I'm sure M1 already knew that when he posted. That's why for the question.
