BAT and poor man's Dry Ice cleaning.

Today on BAT. Sold for $78,000.

Haven't seen this technique since living up the
street from Los Gatos Ferrrari & Exotics (1983ish) !

Tranny and engine had leaks.
Seller (dealer) replaced -four- oil return tubes.
? How to get off the burned crud off engine case, valve covers and tranny?

No Problemo.
- Dry Ice Cleaning? ($1500-2500)
- Steam Cleaning? ($ 200-400) (Real heavy-duty Truck vehicle steam.)
- Simple Green Aviation, powerwash and Elbow Grease? ($50-100)

HELL NO!!!!! BillieBob Khrome rattle-can Silver Paint to the rescue!

PS, I just went through engine cleaning, and opted for Simple Green Aviation blend
with powerwasher and scrubbrushes. I better choice would be a super-duty steam,
but those are closing down due to EPA, it's the best bang for the buck
and you don't have to endure the mess at home.
There was a place in San Jose, CA but it's gone now.
Dry Ice is memsermerizing to watch, but the quarter size blast area takes time
and the cost is $$$$. Perfect for concours/show cars, me- I got a driver.

Wow. Well done for calling out those ****ers in the auction. I want to start following the auctions more closely and bark back at bad faith sellers who cry foul when faced with legit criticism.

Another seller to add to the category "avoid!", although that should have been obvious when they said those goofy oversized wheels make it ride "night and day" compared to the stock Fuchs.

Being a fan of Marine Blue I had a look but my conclusion from a very brief evaluation was that the mileage is not accurate. The entire interior has been painted from what I an tell and it looks rushed. The paint meter readings match what you would expect from a low mileage factory finish but I’m pretty sure I’m seeing overspray in the gas filler opening and at the door jams.

And after your comment about the spray paint I now see overspray on the sway bars underneath! Curious what else is being covered up.

Hopefully I’m wrong and the new owner got a great car and will enjoy it.

As far as undercarriage cleaning, I’m going to bite the bullet and have my 964 dry ice cleaned once I finish all the other projects on it. I’ve had mixed luck with Simple Green and other APC’s attacking rubber and causing premature cracking/failure.

I noticed that the oil service was done with LiquiMoly- That's good.
They installed 5w30 weight- not so good!!
I think this 911 has multiple hidden issues.

A 911 with low mileage doesn't usually need such a heavy interior "refurbish".
Look at the shift knob- leather is GONE from the right side.
The wear on the carpet to the left of the clutch pedal says well over 150k to me.

Agreed, that’s exactly what I saw on my first pass. Then as I looked again I started seeing other issues.

While I appreciate the BAT platform and their ability to pull the right buyers into the mix I do think there’s a lot of dishonesty which is being glossed over.

I started off feeling sorry for the buyer. And it seemed like the seller may have been intentionally trying to hide issues. But the weirdest part to me is that if you paid attention and weren’t blinded by the glamour shots, the pictures imo showed more than enough red flags and concerns to limit the final price or to just not bid.
And comments by the OP and others pointing out the flaws still didn’t dissuade bidders from going to $78k. As was pointed out: overall scruffy interior with severely worn carpet by the pedal box and the gearshift knob that the seller chose not to replace, the ridiculous (or worse) painting of the underside of the engine, an “engine-out” reseal that doesn’t look like it along with a crumbling sound pad laying on the engine.
The seller showed it, warts and all. I hope the buyer is actually happy with it. But man, I can imagine it rolling off the trailer and after 10 minutes of looking at it…big time buyer’s remorse. Go figure.

On BAT I laugh at the camera work where only the center of the image is focussed and the perimeter is fuzzy. The odd image didn't receive the editing treatment and it suddenly becomes obvious it's a RBO, roll back odometer. See this again and again.

Spray bomb'd to preserve, maintain, protect. Lordy, written like a true flipper.

Private sellers may be a bit more realistic with their amateur photos and maybe you can see the flaws. 911r photos would have you believing you were bidding on a new car.

2021 invoice - 53,226 miles (253,226 on Carfax which is probably more accurate)

911r’s photographer is a true magician. The only way to really get an idea of the cars condition is to ask for very specific photos after the fact which won’t be filtered to hide the flaws.

Yeah I was thinking the 250k was also likely accurate and the car has had a mild restoration along the way. Nothing wrong with improving the cosmetics as long as it’s done right and in fact if done right can be every bit as good as the original. I suspect this car may be lipstick on a pig. Again I do hope we are all wrong and it turns out to be a great car for the buyer.

I saw the recent engine out service and saw the sound pad laying on the engine. “Caveat Emptor” I was shocked no one mentioned it. Unfortunately, probably a first time buyer.

I anxiously watched this auction. I have 88 targa bat is going to list. Mine is a 144 k mile gem in comparison to this one and I don’t expect anything near 78k.

The Blue/gray brought the premium. 991 cup wheels meh.

Ironically I recently purchased a 964 on BAT and have been trying to find a dry ice cleaner for the underside. Just in case I don't be I have bought a couple packs of brushes that fit in a drill and impact. I'll also be looking for steam gun. The game plan is to wear out the 6 brushes with a combination of steam and brake clean.

On the steam gun you might look at the harbor freight steam cleaner. I recently picked one up.
