77 2.7 Motor with upgrades - Honestly need help on Valuation, want to sell

Gentlemen, I am doing an LQ9 conversion so no longer need motor (motor is not damaged), 77, 2.7 was rebuilt 20 yrs ago with records - car was my weekend driver. Headers, Pop off Valve, chain tensioner upgrade, Permatune Ignition module /distributor electronic pickup upgrade. injector seals etc (all heat causing emissions features removed). I had always planned to do a LS conversion so after the CIS started acting up (running lean etc) I parked the car & started working on other projects ( I have 3 e30s). Now I want to move forward with my LS conversion and have been searching the web/ebay for similar engines to come up with pricing to no avail. As a long time member/customer since 1999 with Pelican, just want to come up with a decent honest price to sell the 2.7 motor. Can I please get some advice from my Pelican community? Thanks in Advance.

Depends on whether it's a 911 or 911S, for port sizes. I'd pay $5K for it if it's the larger port engine. I view it as a core.

no difference in '77, they were all S's. large/small port pertains to the early/later SC motors, no?...

Roger that. I didn't bother to look up type numbers in 77! So... $5k.

I also would say 5k on the high side. Exhaust and CIS is of little value imho. It has to be considered a core. I sold a similar long block for $2500 not too long ago without the intake or exhaust.

From a hot rod perspective the case, crank, and heads have value. I would put that value at 3-5k.

Early T owners can use the crank in 2.2-2.4 engines. The 7R case is the best of the mag blocks too.

Thanks for your info/response/perspective, checked out your video, when you mentioned the engine you sold for $2,500, interestingly u stated you would probably get $6k for it in today's market.

I missed it before... the 5 blade fan is a "lightweight" boat anchor! Seriously, a buyer will have to purchase another fan too.

if it was a 76 you could possibly get 2x as much. 76 is the cutoff for smog exempt cars in a number of western states and that is a huge factor.

Is this ‘76 rule based on the car chassis number or engine serial number?? Can’t be both with engines & cars both being back and forward dated with engines ..

Colorado is 75. I thought CA was too. Smog testing applies to the vin. Ain’t no smog tech checking the serial number on the engine unless something doesn’t look right.

One cannot put in an engine that is older than the vin/chassis. That’s a federal law. You can install something newer, and provide all smog equipment for that year, in states that test smog.

Matt, you are correct... 75 is the last year that smog testing is not required in CA.
