The “Should I feel bad” for sending things to the recyclers ? THREAD

Long time in the waiting

I have to ask to free my conscious
So I can sleep peacefully at night ...

Should I feel bad for sending these parts to the recyclers ?

$53.57

$46.88

I’m cleaning up my storage making room for good parts vs junk
Most of this stuff are things I had listed for 1-3 years and nothing... no one cared.
Discounted them...nothing and they were taking up tons of space

108mm 4 bolt axles had them at $200 a pair then $100 ... in the end I just tossed them
When I googled the part my photo would come up
First on google search for the damn axles so I know it had maximum exposure even listing them at 30-50% less than anyone else

Ac compressors 964/911/914/930 ect
Rotors (can’t give these away)
964 rear flares (stock narrow) $200 then $50
Front fender flares $100 each
964 tiptronic cooler $200 ?
964 springs after market $100 no one bit

964 + 993 shocks + springs (non m030) beaters I had for $100 complete when the tops are worth more ??!?
69-77 911 spring plates $100 then slashed to $50
Damaged cruise control servos
Not pictured 6 set of 964 oil lines had them $200 then $100 then $50 then free ...
So I cut the ends and tossed them

Did I do wrong selling this stuff to the recyclers ?
Stuff that just doesn’t sell and the effort to then ship for free is more of a hassle
I get the worst experiences selling stuff super cheap/free than tossing it
( speaking from experience)

I’ve seen and purchased old shops and how some older gentlemen end up with hoarded things that never get used then losses on tot
He next guy (like me) I stored many of those parts also with out selling them

My doing 3 more loads maybe 4 more
964 clutches
964 rotors + other 911 models
Stock 911/964/water cooled sway bars
Doors damaged/rusty (4-5 doors)
Damaged fenders
911sc lower valance damaged
G body Rear valances damaged
Glass with minor scratches to severe
Misc pipes/lines (not expensive oil lines)
Bad/dirty starters
Bad/dirty alternators
spares have them listed for $100-150 ...crickets (no not aluminum)
Gears for chain housings
Misc transmission gears
Seat parts
911 H1 USA head lights !!! I got two big bins, I had already tossed 10 of them and still sitting on tons $50 a headlight... ? (I keep the mint chrome trim) the dented trim trash
Brake dust shields
(Calipers I will sell to a caliper rebuild guy had 50 I pulled out)

Stock 911 rear shocks ...can’t give these away $50....$100 for a like new sport set..crickets. I will pair up a few struts and toss the rest

Oil tanks with exterior rust spots but they are good ...going to trash
Fuel tanks 911/912/930/964 nightmare to ship/sell even at $50-100...crickets

This is the “should I feel bad for tossing parts thread “
Later I might post other things I recycled

I don’t want to deal with trash pandas so it seems easier to just go to the recyclers and get its weight by the pound ... decreased the pieces out there in the world and raises the value of the current stock (lol kidding, but a fact)

I onced tried to give away a 10x30 storage container of 914 parts I didn’t Want
The ugly bulky annoying stuff, literally took 3-4 full dumpsters and 2 truck loads of metal for the metal Guys who recycle

What have you guys tossed away ?

I just tossed a set of 964 rotors out, didn’t even get to the recyclers. I have a sent of front rotors which look fairly new which will likely end up in the trash too based upon your comments!

reach out to Tom1394racing here on pelican. that guy shines up another man's junk, advertises it as mint, sells it to unsuspecting saps like me, then won't acknowledge or make his misrepresented parts right when given the chance. he does not pay for return shipping on things like a leaky on engine oil cooler that was "cleaned and tested".

Been 10+ years and am still salty with that flipping-fraud.

I've tossed or abandoned a lot of JDM stuff and porsche early parts. In my experience some parts may come back to haunt one many years later. For instance 6 R32 GT-R transmissions, one of which was close ratio. A few pallets of Type R Honda suspension, Silvia and GT'R Skyline suspension complete with all bolts and parts. List goes on with some 911 parts that I've needed in recent years, that now are out of reach. For the most part though I thought it was good to clear out for a new lifestyle, free of a 200 dollar a month storage gone. It's just those odd parts that are worth big bucks years and years later. I think you can clear your conscience for the time being! Live free, feel free! You will make more money perhaps just with a fresh start on a clear state of mind, with other ideas.

We end up with a lot of VW stuff from barn cleanouts and shop buyouts and I hate to throw stuff away that people can use. So I save it all up and make a big FREE pile at the swap meets, it all goes away. Karma is real!

VW parts? Good on you! Where's the Karma on 356 or 911 parts? I'm guessing they ain't no small ant hill of those in a free ant pile at the swap? If karma is real, you're not getting your fair share.....

I’ve spent the last few weeks going through the previous guy’s junk new parts. So many gears that cost a lot of money to make, but which will never be needed because they just aren’t what the customers want/need.

Later this summer I’m going through the barn. It’s filled with the kind of crap you’re dumping. After nearly 20 years at this I’ve got quite the pile of leftovers from when I used to part out these cars.

Without a storage unit, where would I keep all the 356 hardtops?

I feel his pain too or two! I guess Adam will be alright or Wright if he carries on. If he sells one or two a year, that covers the storage fees. As the time goes on they will be more Ubotanium or unavailable. He's bound to make money in the end. I just don't get the karma on VW parts. Give more get more.

A seller I bought a 911 from had a huge stash of early 911 parts that I got to pick and choose from. Scored some great factory sports purpose headers and trumpet pipes! The best score was a pair of vinyl '69-73 sport seats in very nice shape...$500! As I'm loading the seats, the guys says "Yeah, I had two other pairs of those that had ripped upolstery and rusty frames...they were getting in the way so I tossed 'em a few years back."

2000 I came back for HS reunion, bought a 73E targa in So. Lake Tahoe for 1200. Engine bay caked with pine needles. Got it going, but not clued onto sport seats then, traded them to college friend in OC CA who was. He still has his 73S so I got his seats in trade for mine including some JC Whitney seat covers and 200 dollars. My sport seats were shagged from weather in Tahoe and sun but all there. Bad deal now that I think of it. David is so cheap, To this day he has neither restored that car or the seats, even though I gave him 500 bucks (on some other deal) and a contact to get the seats perfect for 4K 20 years ago. How much would it cost now to get them perfectly restored? It really feels like I tossed them. I was ignorant at the time.

I had a shed of 914 parts I couldn't give away back in 2011. Everything you could think of transmissions, Fuel tanks, doors etc. I had people buy some of it and offered them additional parts for free but didn't want to store them. Today I could sell some of it for a small fortune but they are long since gone.

If anyone knows the value of used 911 parts it is you. You were a great resource for parts for a long time. I actually started collecting parts like these. Many of the classic parts being released are IMO inferior. I recently picked up a set of axles for my 964 and they are no longer hollow so I am keeping the shafts and tossing the spent CV's. I don't want the new units in my cars so I am rebuilding what i can. I agree things like used rotors and shocks aren't worth keeping but if the A/C parts and spring plates are good eventually people will buy them. It is funny when you want to sell nobody wants to pay but when someone needs them they will pay through the nose.

Thanks Cobalt! I was thinking the other day when you posted. I still have a right side rear axle for a 993, just in case you collect those. Don't know if it's same as 964 to be honest. Different car from my saga of 993 rear suspension assembly that traveled around the world over 20 years and came home for a profit. Anyway, dismantled that car myself 20 years ago too so I know all the gory details on this axle. Still have that hub and the right side suspension assembly. Just in case you wanted to collect the axle.

I appreciate it but I am solly 964 and the front bits are interchangeable with 993 but the rear aren't. I appreciate the thought though.
