911 euro engine value
 

Looking for help with valuing so that I can sell.

I have a disassembled 3.0l engine from a 1979 911 ROW car.

The Case is not separated but all head bolts and bearings look great. I can take plenty of pics.

I wouldn't separate a shell, motor, and trans. I think you're better off the keep the lot together, you'll get just as much for a "complete" project IMO and it will be a lot less trouble.

what do the heads, cylinders and pistons look like? a fire damaged case could have twisted some getting so heated. looks like the fire was put out quickly by the case but separating it could be the only way to know.

did the early euro SC have a tranny cooler? does the sale unit have one?


help those who know here by providing more pictures of the top end.

Would the engine # suggest it’s from a 1969? Specifically a S motor?

You’re seeingthe same hesitance here that you are going to see from buyers.

One comment that stands out is Juanbenae’s mention of the only way to find out if the case is warped is to split it. Then you would take it and bolt it back together and see if the crank spins freely.

This engine might be largely junk. It might be fine. You need to help us help you. Keep posting pictures and adding details. You’ll start to see numbers. You could just list it for sale with some random number but you will get all the same concerns and requests for details. Consider this your due diligence on value. It’s not because nobody wants to help.

When I was in the process of resurrecting the car, I had three Porsche guys look at the motor in its various states- prior to tear down and after. None of them seemed concerned with case damage. Two believed that it could be put back together without splitting the case and the third thought that in order to rebuild it correctly then i should split the case.
When I was directed above to split the case and reassemble it, that only makes sense to me if I am going to go ahead and refinish the halves and install new bearings, etc.
I am looking to sell this motor, not rebuild it.

I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. You put the used bearings in. You put the crank in. You put the halves together and hand tighten them. You aren’t rebuilding anything. You are checking to see if it has warped. If it’s not warped it will spin freely. If it’s warped it won’t. It’s that simple. Nobody expects you to rebuild an engine you are about to sell.
