1988 targa G50 sleeper

Hey Guys,
Fair number? On of my Childhood best friends.(43 years). He has been looking for his Porsche and has an interest in my car. After owning it for 5 years. I drive it less and less. My brother and I share some cars

What’s a fair number? My intention is to get a fair value and work him a good deal. I would of course get first right to buy it back.

1984 ROW 3.3L Turbo motor with 1 bar spring; 4-5% leak down.
144,000 miles on car.
ROW euro motor ..Sadly from a 1984 slant nose got a LS1 Swap
300 h.p. vs. U.S 282 h.p.
410 torque
K27 turbo
G50 Transmission. Earlier turbo transmissions 4 spd.
Eisenbud’s of Denver has maintained the car since 1995.
Eisenbuds installed the 3.3L turbo motor 20,000 miles ago.
Paint near perfect ( chip on driver door edge, 2 rock chips) no dings!
Leather seats in good shape
Top rebuilt by Dave Brown
Brand New tires on 16” x 7” and 16” x 9” wheels
Stereo system is a little much focal speakers, 2 alpine amps, subwoofer.
Maintenance inspection, oil changes, and transmission service up to date.
No deferred maintenance.

Only items to sell it would be a fresh detail in the engine bay and underside.

Thanks guys…

He plans to take it for a few days and we will see if it works.

My Lord, what a car!
Obviously the originality hurts but the engine helps. IDK, $55K-65K?

I dunno. I think that’s what this car would be without the engine. I’d go another $20k higher given that real 930 targas are kind of rare.

I'll go with Matt on this since i'm bias and own something similar. It all depends on how eager you are to sell and whether you are lucky enough to find a motivated buyer or two.

You’re going to spend another 5 figures putting your car back together.

Seller is a known entity here in Colorado. This car doesn’t have needs.

It's a cool car no doubt, but people and their ridiculous commitment to originality can hurt its broader market appeal. I personally agree it's worth more than an original G50, but not everybody will.

And let's not forget he wants to sell it to his best buddy at a "fair" price. That alone should knock the price down a bit. Personally I'd be hard pressed to tell my best bud the price is $85K.

85k is what you tell the flippers…

I think for his first Porsche he would be 99% happy.
Reliability
Best parts from a G body
He likes targas/convertibles
He likes all turbos….Saabs, Audi, Volvo.
He likes music

One worry is he might wrap it around a tree.

I read his post asking for what is full market and he would then determine buddy price. I don’t know how close they are or what kind of deal he will offer his friend.

Agree with NYN; this isn't a profit-maximizing exercise. The friendly deal price begins with a "5."

Gotcha. Sounds to me like he already has a buddy price in mind anyway.

Yes I did….I don’t want to take him. I also don’t want him to hem and haw about the price being high. I wanted to assure him he won’t lose much money on a Porsche

Why I posted the fair price thread. One from fellow pelicanites

Eisenbud’s is a plus. Like Mayo down here you know it’s been taken care of by people who know what they are doing. Adding a turbo in Colorado makes mountain driving much more enjoyable. One loses 3% hp for every 1000’ feet of elevation. A turbo might not get all of that back, but it sure helps passing flatlander Hondas. I’d guess it’s worth at least 75k, maybe 80. Good luck with it.

I think at $60k it would be gone in one day.

It's not original but it's not a cream puff swb, where it understandably kills the value.

Also it's modded but they're basic common sense mods, not goofy nosebleed interior bits and tacky body parts.

I'm very much a purist and dislike mods 9 times out of 10, but if I had $60k to spare I'd be all over this car.

10 years ago that was a $20,000 car.
You'll be selling your friend an appreciating asset at below market cost. Be mentally prepared for him to flip it at some point. That said, a fair price for a friend would be the going rate for an '88 Targa with no mods. It's hard to put a value on mods so that eliminates the question.

That's where I would sell it if it were my car. And when I give a good deal to a buddy I ask for a couple year first right of refusal at the same price I sold it to them.
