Opinion on value of a tube frame 911 racecar?

Transaxle (944 and 928) guy looking at possibly buying this tube frame 911 racecar as a project to fix up, track a bit, and sell.

Don't have a ton of info. It was in SCCA GT3 EP I believe, around 1999. Not sure about any other race history than that but he does have the logbook. Been sitting for a decade or more, engine does in fact run but the seller says the clutch needs replacement so it's not drivable according to him. Brakes are also in need of a refresh, saying front calipers leak.

It has a 71T engine, 2.2, with Webers. 901 trans, and comes with an extra - unsure if LSD. Every body panel is fiberglass par the roof. Windshield is still glass, but other windows are lexan (door windows non existent). Cookie cutters for wheels, and Wilwoods in front for brakes and 2pot 911 rear brakes.

Attached some pics

hahaha!!!! tell him to just light a few $100 bills on fire with his map torch, have a beer and cigar while in his garage being happy he did not go down that rabbit hole.

building that into a track car will cost 3x what you could likely sell it for after "track(ing) it a bit". it's a great platform to start a build from, but you need to be committed and have a ton of money to put the map torch too.

I got 50 cents on the dollar from my racecar build when it sold, that's not including the hundreds of hours I spent building it from a road car. would not trade the experience for anything, the build, the racing, the people i met and even the money spent, and lost.

still check in on my thread from time to time like a walk down memory lane

It's an ex racecar that was running from 1999 to 2006. Turning it into a DE car at this point requires a brake refurb, fixing the clutch, an ignition tune up, carb tune up (which are already rebuilt), valve adjustment, and new tires. Also going to need a pair of matched seats and new 5pt belts. But I already knew this, I'm just wondering what people think the value of it is worth before I go and overpay.

Comes with a spare that's never been used. Not a big deal if I need to buy a new one.

I think this one was listed on Facebook in Florida for 15k. That to me seemed like a fair deal for it.

It’s all stock and was pulled from another rusty tub along with the 901 trans. It has no vin or title.

The roof is the only actual Porsche body part on this car,
Pretty sure that engine is worn out so best budget to at least refresh it.
I too was thinking about it, as a home for one of my 3.0s and early 915.

I kicked this car around too, and this is spot on. It’s a tube frame that looks like a 911. The motor is done, with no vin or title i passed.

no VIN.. limited market, limited use, trailer required, what's the build quality of the tube frame? worth putting a pricey motor and trans in it? tired core 2.2T doesn't add any utility to this tube frame race car....cookie cutters eehhh... total refurb and an engine and trans needed and????........a challenge to price other than parts due to such a lack of a market for it.

Agree 100%, Based on my experience it is probably not worth much. I put a 79SC, 2200 lbs w full nascar cage with add in pelican dealer section about 6 months ago.
Freshened originally built by Dave Jarvis TT 3.4 motor and shortened bellhousing 930 Transaxle, fuel cell bladder, 930 brakes w new race rotors, Wide BBS 80s wheels, 935 coil overs, etc. Was originally CA built in the 80s and seat belts expired 1994. Has a good VIN w/ title and a trailex trailer. No takers @ $55K. Best offer was $40K.
