1982SC valuation

1982SC

110K miles
Repaint (color change), not amazing, but driver quality
Porsche script sport seats
All new window seals
DAS sport roll bar
New master Cyl and pedal box,
New everything 915 rebuild and clutch (less than 500 miles)
new coupler and bushings
46mm PMO carbs (weeping, need rebuild)
MSD ignition
Carrera Tensioners
Turbo Valve covers
Back date heat
broken head stud
7&8 Fuchs
SSIi headers, Dansk 2 in 1 out exhaust

I think fair value is $35K, but thought I'd see what the critics think.

not with leaky carbs and a broken headstud.

with not other info on the condition of the engine, you're probably in the ballpark, maybe higher if you found someone who has similar taste to you...

I figure a car with new studs, and good paint would go for maybe $60-70K... So say $60K minus $10K for a pretty good drivers paint job, maybe $2000 for a rebuild a sync of the carbs, and $5K for new studs and upper reseal.

At $35K there is room in this car to cover any mics or unsorted bits and not be upside down. I loose $20K at $35K but that's air-cooled luck someone gets to rebuild the engine and trans at some point, and they will never recover that cost. Luckily I only had one of those on my watch.

You had me until the broken head studs. At $35k it'll sell, probably quickly. At $45K you'll run into complainers.

Somebody who can do the carbs and the head studs themselves will get a good deal.

The only way to get much more than $35k is obvious. Do the head studs. Document it. And the car will be worth 50-60 if you find the right buyer. It does feel like these hot rods have slipped in value a bit, unless they are turn-key and done to a high standard. I do think the numbers will start creeping up again soon. But that’s anyone’s guess.

i went the jeep route,,,

way better than racing or tracking a car. you sit all day, but not waiting for your run group, warm up, qualifying or such. a slow heart rate still helps...

I picked up a pristine WRX a couple years ago. Been trying to decide if I’m going to spend money on my 914s, or liquidate those too and buy more Japanese things.

I am 100% all in on Japan.

I think I am going to shoot for this order...

NSX
MK4 Supra TT
R32 GTR
FD RX7

I think the NSX and Supra will give me the least pain to maintain, and I have the STi RA for raw playtime.

I had forgotten you already have one. I’m got the memory of a goldfish these days.
