68 912 Project Price Check

Hey all, been looking to get into the aircooled game for a while now and this popped up nearby

. 1968 912 roller with a disassembled 3.0 motor. Seems listed a little high, was looking to gain some insight on what a fair offer would be? Looks to be relatively rust free.

I’m building a 67-912 with a 3.2. You need to be aware of the condition of the chassis. They all will have rust. You need to know how much. Also need a trained eye to determine what’s been hit and repaired over the years. It’s almost 60 years old. Chances are it’s been hit. Aftermarket body panels are often a clue.
Engine needs at least a leak down to determine overall health.
It could be a decent start or a costly nightmare. You need to make sure you know where you stand.

Ah, the lightweight SWB hotrod. Both of you better think about brakes.

I’m using S calipers on the front, M calipers rear. Same setup as an early turbo but my car will be hundreds of pounds lighter.

Yup, I expected some rust to be present covered up by the thick yellow paint. Just seems it’s approaching driver quality territory price wise, despite being a non driving project. Fiigure low 20’s to be more appropriate?

Yup seems like a good starting point for a hotrod/outlaw etc build. Not looking for show quality or concourse level.

Brake will be upgraded if I decide to pursue.

That’s 2019 thinking and pricing. This car is priced fairly. It’s SWB. You want something in the 20s find a ‘69 912 as your starter car. Or a 69-71 911T.

Low 20's with little rust? Other than the front bumper I like it. Be prepared though, you don't want to know what my MFI throttle bodies cost to rebuild.
Mep's got a good brake setup but the Boxster's I have are easier to source.

Yeah that front bumper is a no-go for me, but an easy fix.
