I have seen that car before on pelicanparts does somebody have the link to have better pictures and to know the history of it?. It is already the third time I believe in 1 year that it is sold by the new owner.

That was my old 911. I bought it from ricks911 here on Pelican. It was an absolutely great car, but one day while driving the timing chain broke. My mechanic didn't dig into it, he just assumed it would need a rebuild and would cost a bunch of $$$ that I didn't have at the time to do it. Reluctantly I sold it to Mike S. in VA. Turns out it was only the chain and nothing else was damaged. I'm bummed because I had plans to keep her forever...oh well. She was a beauty and someone will get a nice little ride. Hope that helps any of you looking at it on ebay. On a side note, I'm happy to say I'm back into the game (kinda) with a 912 that I bought off of Morrie down in Texas (from here on Pelican)...don't have it yet, but she should be paid off and shipped very soon. Here's a picture:

Mr. 66 is right. The busted chain was the cause of the motor malfunction, I had both chains changed just to be sure. She runs great now. No valve or piston damage, either the Porsche gods were smiling or the 2.0 liter 911T motors have more room up top than most people think. The motor is not a worry. The spot at the rear on the driver's side is going to be looked at by local expert shop tomorrow. I'll know then what it'll take to fix that. I'll make sure everyone knows what is what.

The ad states that the color is aubergine. That looks more like Burgundy to me in the pic's. Plse confirm color code.

Just saw the extra pic's which confirmed that the color is burgundy red. Don't mean to be pciky, but nurgundy is definitely not the same as aubergine which was dark purple. Burgundy is dark reddish brown. Your car looks very nice...

Mike is going by what I was told when i bought the car, which was that it was a repaint in the factory color of aubergine. Hope this helps...and MAN I MISS THAT CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Indeed, I thought it was aubergine, like Mr. 66 said. The paint tag says 68-6808-G, which I clearly state on my web page decodes to Burgandy. If it's burgandy that's cool. In some of the pics it sure looks purple to me though. It IS brown in flourescent light in my garage. I thought aubergine and burgandy were just two names for the same color, one name used up until 72 then the other, something like that. There's a photo of the paint tag on the web page I made at

It doesn't look that bad in person. But since folks have asked about it, I am taking the car tomorrow morning to the terrific folks at {shop name removed per their request} and will get Louis to give me his thoughts which I will relay to ya'll. These early cars ALL rust, even one year older or newer makes a difference as Porsche used more galvanized pieces over the years so a 69 is more prone than a 70, a 70 more than a 71, etc. By 73 they were doing much better. I know how that sounds but it's true. It all depends on how hard you look. Will advise.

Mike is correct in saying it's not as bad as the pictures make it look...that is such a macro shot, it looks like it's rotten to pieces. In actuality the spot's about the size of your fingernail. Not that it doesn't eventually need addressed, but it looks nothing like that in person. Rust is like cancer. However, the rust in no way compromises the integrity of the car or torsion area to be precise. I would love to buy the car back, I just cannot at this time. Believe me, I would if I could...it's THAT nice of a car!!! Some pelican should buy it and keep it in the family!

Porschenut-I disagree completely with your assessment. That is *serious* structural rust.

The lower bolt of the spring plate cover is missing, and you'll notice the metal behind has been bent down. That bolt is supposed to limit the travel of the spring plate, and it hasn't. The 5 to 16 hour estimate to fix indicates this isn't just a cosmetic issue.

To the sellers point an expert has determined it's fixable and there is plenty about this car that's very nice.

I still wonder how an ad can have 80 pictures including front suspension and pans and somehow leave the rear area out.

I spoke to the owner of the shop who did the rust inspection. He told me the car required $12,000 in rust repair.

Holy S#@t! Are you serious? I owned that car before Mike and my mechanic said it needed fixed but not right away. What in the heck needed fixed so bad that it would run that much? The torsion bar area was the only visable rust. Most other areas had already been repaired. I'm just curious at this point since she's long gone to me. Thanks, Dan

He called me (I work at Pelican) and asked me to remove the references to his shop from this thread, as the posts didn't accurately reflect his assessment. He mentioned the $12,000 figure, but I didn't ask him for any details. It's a very well-respected restoration shop, so perhaps he was quoting the cost of a concours-quality repair. I have no idea.
