I'm getting the feeling that prices on T "projects" are dropping fast. In the past two to three weeks, there has been three or four just here on Pelican in the $6-8k range.
With the forecast of a soft stock market, real estate, etc. I think more of these will surface. Just my observation. Patience?

I think you are on target. An S targa sold on ebay last week for $23K (about) if my memory is correct, it tooked like a decent car. Patience..., I had the fever last week. Much better this week. Thanks-Bill

Yes,
but that S targa in red you are refrering to had numerous issues.
First, that car had been repainted from its original silver color to red. Secondly, the seller advised in his auction that the front passenger inner trunk panel had crumple marks - indicating that it had taken a decent hit at some point in the past. In addition, the rear end was uneven and seemed to hang lower on one side more than the other - another sign that the car had been in more than just a fender bender.
And lastly, the engine had developed a substantial knocking noise on the driver side somewhere just before the auction ended, requiring even at a minimum that the engine be pulled to examine the noise. And for the buyer sake, pray it wasn't anything more than a loose chain tensioner.
Add all of those things up, and $23,000 doesn't seem like such a bargain.
A similar car 2.4S targa which had been white and repainted black and which was for sale at the same time, went for $35,000. And that car wasn't perfect either.
If anything I see the nice early cars continuing to hold their values. In fact, I see the cars T and E models without issues continuing to go for ever bigger $$$ due to the fact that the pricing for S's has hit the roof, and most people looking for a nice early 911 for weekend fun can't justify spending that kind of money on an S.
Perhaps the ones that are unoriginal and have issues are starting to drop off in price. So maybe there is an opportunity to buy one a little cheaper now if you are looking for a nonoriginal car or one with issues.
But the fact is that prices have come so far on the past 2 years on the early 911's, that good early original 911T's are now going for about the same money as a decent 356 A/B/C coupe (not the SC coupes!)...
One other thing to consider too, as prices continue to sprial upwards for the early 911's, so does the cost of restoration - unless you do it yourself. But there are few of us on this board who have the talent and ability to restore one properly alone in his garage...

I spoke with a friend of mine from Oregon who knew the car, and said it was diagnosed as a rod bearing failure. Final price was $18K. I do have a new car though. I bought the 70T that was listed here on Pelican a couple days ago. A one owner California car that moved to TN a year ago. Original paint, signal orange, sport seats, and one small rust issue on the passenger door. It is not running, but is fitted with Webers. It will soon be a running, restoration project. I will try to get some photos up later. It came with the original documentation for a factory pickup. Sport seats cost 180 DM in 1970. It was a good find. Bill
