69E values

Just trying to get an idea where these cars are sitting right now. Let's say a coupe in reasonably good condition with MFI and little rust. Average miles for the age of the car.

This is all hypothetical. Building my knowledge. Thanks.

Rust is a total value killer. What kind of rust are we talking about? Fenders? Light buckets? Jack points? Battery boxes? Here in Cali, rust can drop a $29,000 car to $9,000.

I realize the question is a little vague. So....let's say the battery box has a couple of holes but the suspension points are solid. Front area under the spare has very minor surface dusting. Minor rust on the lower pans that can be cured with a wire brush, POR-15, and a couple of beers. Rear window frame has a one-inch spot causing the paint to bubble. Everything else clear. I consider that a little rust.

Coupe or Targa? Color? Interior condition? Wheels are 14" or 15"? Fuchs?

"I have a Porsche problem" - don't we all.

OK, a coupe. Color, anything but burgundy (sp), but let's say black (special order), light ivory, Bahama Yellow, or green. If repainted, a quality job. I loathe overspray.

Interior very good condition but could use a little attention. Dash crack almost always a given. 15" Fuchs (they all deserve deep 6's).

Drivetrain - possible rebuild but not necessarily if lower miles and well maintained. Transmission rebuilt or junk.

in summary - a nice car -

Still hard to generalize with the rust so let me be very unhelpful and say the car would be somewhere between $11-$18,000. You know, deep sixes, sport seats, original radio, fold-out map pockets, all the interior and exterior trim, and the color. An ivory car that was painted guards red in 1987 worth less to me than original Bahama Yellow that's chipped-to-****. Tranny and engine rebuilds can be a great thing or a disaster. But between you and me? The 1969 911E is the best 2.0 liter Porsche ever built. Just drive a 2.0 911S some time. A 911E is a way better drive and only tenths of a second slower 0-60. So good luck with your search. You're on to something great. (And, yes, I'm totally biased. )

Thanks Sandy, I was kinda thinking around $15K would be a good price for a "nice" car. I realize you're probably biased and I would be too . I agree with your assessment of an E compared to an early S. I used to have a '67 911S. It was a beautiful machine but I rarely drove it and retrospect has me thinking it was the cams (my minivan was faster off the line), so I sold it. Me personally, I like a more well-rounded power band, not just high rpm's.

My '65 has the same cams as your '69E so I imagine it's very similar power-wise. The thing I love about the '69E and S is the dash area. Very good looking. Plus deep sixes round out that particular year of car so well.

I'm not really on the hunt, just weighing options.
