76 911S Euro

Me again... What about this car? Asking price is $7K. According to Excellence a "poor" '76 911 is worth $9-10K. Excellence doesn't seem to make any distinction between the various 911 models either. Are there better pricing guides?

Quote from ad:

"1976 911S Euro...

"113k original miles, numbers matching drivetrain. Black on black with $5k in recent maintenance receipts. Drives tight, runs excellent, and handles great. 4 spd car with the 2.7 Liter engine. "

Also, is there any way to investigate/track a car's history. VIN's don't start until--what? 1981??.

TIA for any pointers.

Um.. an "S" wouldn't have a 4spd. If it is a Euro car, it is likely a base motor 2.7 with 150ish hp. 4spd? not worth the effort right there, when combined with (imho) the ungainly large rear spoiler given the lack of rear flares.

What is it with "middle year cars" for you.

Heck, there is a guy who posted right here (PMD) whose contemplating selling his 944 and 911 (1976iirc). That one seems a bit better than the last two you've asked about

Hi Racer,

I'm just trying to learn... ;-). I see a car that looks "good" to me--or at least looks like it has some potential, but I don't know. I hope I'm not imposing on the forum this way.

Do you have the engine number and or VIN number? If so you can check them through this site:
http://www.elferhelfer.com/fzident.htm#
It's in German, but just click the year range on the left. It should make sense.

It still needs smog. If it were a 75, I'd say you should look into it. 7k isn't much, but you can get a half way decent SC for 10, so why bother?

If car was a true euro it would have a 3.0 and 5sp with a wide body. Car sounds pretty well hashed if all the parts are not there. Sorry
