Why hasn't this sold???

This has got to be one of the best SC's I've seen for sale ever! Am I missing something?

Where's the guy from San Fran looking at the SC in MA?

umfan866??

I'd be all over this if I didn't have to ship it 3,000 miles. Shipping quotes are getting out of hand.

nice SC

I agree on that being one of the nicest SC's around. I saw that and considered buying it, but didn't want another white car. It will be the pride and joy of the future new owner though. Sure looks nice.

It may be nice, but price is the driver and that is over premium dollars for this year.

I realize that but even at 12 or 13K? In the NE all the 12K SC's are dogs compared to this one.

Maybe you have to be the right buyer...perhaps the owner is being picky about who he would like to be the new caregiver of his beautiful car???

This thing sure looks sweet...gray market Euro...nice colors too.

It is a nice car and I would probably consider to if I did not already have a P-car.

Only issue that scares me is the head stud issue.

The main criteria when I purchased mine was that the original headstuds were already changed along with a top end rebuild.

There is a nice Red Targa for sale in my area with 110,000 miles for $18,900

Well I checked out the place with the $18,900 red targa and it's sold!

I checked it out in person a few months ago and it was in nice condition and mostly original except for the chin spoiler and upgraded chain tensioners. I do not know if the motor was ever opened up. Car was detailed to the max since it was being shown at a Porsche/Ferrari consignment shop.

Seats were OK for it's age and it still had the front trombone oil cooler.

Wow.. I'm flattered and so is my car, thanks for the kind words. It not perfect, but pretty nice for its age.

I remember shopping for an SC and test driving money pits at $12K. A few on first glance, I had no need to drive I just wanted to leave, but to save the owners feelings took a spin anyway. Some were mad because I didn't want to double clutch every shift or put kitty litter under the car, or buy a new dash and headliner or replace seats or paint or wheels ..... etc, etc,. It adds up very quickly when you want to own a car you can have pride in. I know I'm priced higher than most. I'm including about $1k in new/used parts and manuals.

My wife is mad at me for wanting to sell it. She really loves the car and she can drive it too. No doubt spring would bring more buyers, but we have two cars apiece and this one just doesn't get out of the barn(garage) enough to really enjoy it. It will bring joy to someone.

Only advertised here and Craigslist. Collectorcartrader would garner a lot of interesting calls. I'm getting lots of interest now, but mostly from out of state. Was hoping to keep in So Cal, so I could visit.

Well I have looked at your car here on Pelican several times as I am looking for a Euro SC to go club racing in F class and yours is just too nice to do that to it. Euro SCs are the hot ticket in PCA club racing right now and the most competitive class but there are limits to what I would do to a nice 911. Good luck on your sale.

Terry and the guy who started this thread,

You car HAS caught my attention more than once.
For me, I prefer red, black, white in that order, but
that sure is a clean white car you have there. And
I love the color of that fan.

This last weekend my wife was out-of-town so my
son and I got to drive some Carrera's and SCs
(including Ian's thanks!).

There are some nice mint SC's locally which I wasn't
able to check out including one that WAS on CL that
was black/tan for about 13k and a "GB" sticker on the
back (contacted that guy again today).
Some other nice ones, but NONE of them are EURO

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/222895586.html
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/224239464.html

I am realizing the horsepower advantages of a EURO,
which does appeal. Terry I am PMing you know....

Thks Marvin.

Thanks, Marvin. The car sold yesterday. I wish you much success on your search.

Be careful of words like "mint" and "pristine". There are cars out there that come close to that description, but those words are often tossed around recklessly in too many ads.

And always spend the money on a PPI.

Terry

Thanks, John. It will be residing in Atlanta. I'm confident the new owner will keep it looking and running as good as ever.

Zotman, Thanks, and I hope you find your euroracer.

TerryH-- congrats on the sale, and sorry I missed it!!

I know of a black/tan SC here for with 7' and 9's and the
A/C works and the pics look good, but I have not seen it in person. I talked to the owner today who was picking it up from the garage today after taking car of every little thing. He has a buyer at around 13k but would like 14k to cover his repairs, so PM me if you need his number.

I also know of a quite clean red 85 911 and a beige 86 both 3.2 Carreras for 16.9 and 18.9 respectively, with 100-130k miles each. The owner was kind enough to let me drive both, as well as his Boxter also for sale. PM me for his contact info as well.

Yesterday I drove what I consider a "BEATER" carrera 3.2/G-50. Engine ran fine, tranny shifted a little rough even though it was a G-50, drivers seat had a massive hole in the bolster, the after market muffler was so loud I needed earplugs, Fuchs removed for turbo twists, handled a little too loose (I suspect it needs shocks), the oil light came popped on randomly while driving, the VIN stickers were painted over in the main locations, the light switch poped too easily between normal beam and high beam (some kind of loose connection or seating), the hood and trunk wouldn't stay open, and the carfax revealed a police report that involved a side impact even though not salvage. Owner (a college student) said in his add that "this car has never been in an accident) and was not forthcoming with the VIN - now I know why. ALso 140k on the engine with no known rebuild or top-end, and few receipts avialable. Owner still wants 17k.... NOW I know why these are all 20k cars and the smartest thing in the world is to go for the well-sorted-out ones...

Well, I started the thread but can't claim to have bought the car!

I'm glad it worked out Terry, I figured it would have sold at some point.

umfan866, keep looking, your ride is out there somewhere! I looked for years, not wanting to shell out big $$ but also not wanting a dog. I finally found one that falls in between: a Diamond BLue Metalic '88 with 90K miles for $12K. Just needs a tune up, tires, exhaust and a serious detailing.

Well worth the wait!!

Good luck!

An 88 CE edition for 12k? Ok, what was your method of
searching and where in world did you find that kind of a
deal?

I had a chance 2 months ago to buy an 88 CE Cab for
$15.5k from the owner, who didn't realize it was a CE.
His car probably should be worth $20k but because it
had 130k, some dash issues, needed shocks, and a few
other things including the original CE wheels, I passed.
I ended up telling him about his CE edition, and he is
now a Pelicanite!

I got lucky, found it local on Craigslist after searching nation-wide, getting transporter quotes etc.

It still needs work, don't get me wrong, but the paint is perfect, had a new clutch with fork update, rotors and pads in '04 but will need some TLC. I figured I can do a lot myself with Waynes book and some elbow greese. If I spend $3K getting it to where I want it, I think I still made good.

Wow,
Another Porsche moving to the East coast

This is getting to be a common occurance.

Will the tide reverse in 20 years when the supply of decent west coast cars dries up and we start shipping them back to CA?

Nice thing about NC is that we do not have emission testing for pre-1996 automobliles as of 1/1/06, just the $9.95 safety inspection.

Vehicles over 30 years old are exempt from Safety & emissions.
