Evil Bay threat
Here is one seller I DON'T see routinely threatening to list their cr on Ebay
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=308639 Seems like an honest car with reasonable asking price. Why do all the sellers asking too much for their cars bump 3* and then say "last reduction before I list it on (*&*&%^ bay" Is that supposed to get a rise out of someone?

I wonder what would happen if someone threatened to list it on ebay for them, would that get a rise out of them? Or would they be grateful that someone else sold it for them?
My .02: Ebay sucks, especially when selling a Porsche. You will never get what it is worth unless it is a specialty car. Otherwise this is the home of all lowballers, budget shoppers and bargain hunters...just a waste of $$$ to list it here. I spent $150 selling a car on ebay once 4 years ago and ended up diverting from the entire scheme and dealing with the buyer directly, forgetting about the ebay post. The only good thing about ebay is that everyone will see your car, but this can be achieved by putting a for sale sign on it and driving it around. Everybody will look at it, but nobody can afford it.

Why should eBay be a threat to anyone? If you can't sell a car on Pelican, eBay is a great way to get a wide audience for your vehicle. Let the world market decide the price.
I always try to sell cars and parts here first so that enthusiasts have the first shot. If no one bites, off to ebay they go. Fortunately I've sold all but one car without having to resort to ebay. Stay in the stone age if you wish, but don't criticise others who wish to get a wide audience for their car. |

I am not being critical, just going along with the original thread:
"...Why do all the sellers asking too much for their cars bump 3* and then say "last reduction before I list it on (*&*&%^ bay" Is that supposed to get a rise out of someone?"

Sometimes it takes a few weeks or months to find the right buyer. I wonder separate forums can be set up for Pre-73 1/2, SC's, Carreras, 964 etc... Then break it out by color, Targa, Coupe, Stock, modified, lobster Red Interior section ![]()

FWIW. I tried selling my old 968 for months. Listed it on EBAY and it was gone in two weeks. I had some strange emails from EBAY weirdos but in the end a cash paying enthusiast stepped up and bought it.

I plan to post my current 81 911SC here on Pelican before putting it on Ebay, as I did with my last 911. It sold to collector in Germany for 2K more than I paid for it. I shipped it back over there to be restored. I have sold several cars on Ebay and alway have done well.
I don't think it's a threat, more of a "If you're thinking about it, you better move before it's gone on Ebay." Literally gone as my cars have always sold and I didnt have to take a loss either. The cars that didnt sell on Ebay were sold to individuals seeing it on Ebay and contacting me after the auction. Like it or not, it's a quick way to sell a car if you're not looking to get your unrealistic price for it ![]()
