How 'blown' is the piston and was it the result of some other problem?
I took apart a 3.0 with a piston that went and the following was UNuseable: - 1x head - 5x cylinders (broken piston parts scored most other internals) - 5x pistons (see above) - 1x rod (bent when piston ate itself) - Crankshaft (piston failure was traced to a oiling issue and rod bearing failed) - Oil pump (damaged by rod) - Oil cooler (thrown out due to the likelyhood of small metal bits getting everywhere) In fact, I was very lucky to salvage the case and a few other small internal pieces. If I was to put a value on a 3.0 engine with a destroyed piston again, I would plan on only being able to use 5 heads, the cam towers, cams, fan/alternator and some of the front timing stuff - maybe $850-1200. As a reference point, the 3.0 package I got cost $2500 and included clean Webers and a fresh reground crank. Regards, Andrew M |
