Nice T coupes are near $10k. Take off a little for the targa, a little for condition, and a lot for not running, and I would guess between 4 - $5k. If it were running and could provide good compression numbers, maybe over $6k.

With all that being said, I happen to be looking for an early Targa. I sent you an email about a possible 914 trade.

4-5k? wow, If i cant get more then that i am best keeping it. I have well over double that invested. i know ill never see that. but 4-5k would be a kick below the waist i couldnt take.

imo. the gas burners, the documentation, the original drivetrain, and being a one owner car should make a big difference. as far as a longhood targa goes how can it be more ideal of a car for a restoration? the only thing its lacking is being a T instead of a S

truthfully im hopeing for $7-7,500 or possibly better. and thats still eating a little over half of my investment.

Sorry buddy, I didn't mean to kick you below the belt. If she ran it would be an entirely different ball game. Not running = core needing rebuild. Good compression numbers should put you ~$7k. Spend some time, get her running, compression check, then cha-ching.

Also keep in mind that I am a potential buyer. So of course it isn't worth much. : )

well the car was professionally maintained from the day the warranty was up on up till 99' by a well known, and reputable area import specialist.
and when i got the car from him he said it was a solid motor. it turns over fine and im sure it would start if it was just getting spark. a simple problem to a porsche guru . a big one for me.

I have been following the saga of your purchase and sale of the targa, because I like the car (I already have mine so I'm unbiased). Most of the value of your car is in the sum of the parts:

PMOs: $1,500
Mahle wheels: $2,750
Engine: $1,250
Interior (with door pockets, radio, seats, etc.): $2,000
Chasis, sheet metal, etc.: $1,500

TOTAL: $9,000

However, parting her out is against the question as she is a mainly rust-free car and would take some serious time, effort and aggravation. I would trade the wheels for fuchs and serious cashis and then either (a) sell the car for $5-6K or (b) use the cash from the wheels to get the engine running and give her a basic paintjob and see if you enjoy owning the targa. She looks to be a great car and I wouldn't be so quick to sell her.

BTW, nice T coupes are not $10K. If you know of any nice coupes for $10K please let me know immediately. That said, this car needs paint, suspension, engine work and is not in "nice" condition.

Check eBay. I've seen several over the past month or so that sold for ~$10k. I have been following sales looking for the perfect Targa.

I just looked and several have been sold for under $10k.

This one looked really sweet:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=299767

So they are out there.

Chris, please do not part your car out. She deserves to be restored. Keep the wheels, especially if the "485 press. cast alloy wheels" are gas burners. I'd get rid of the PMO's and get some zeniths. Seriously! They have a bad rap because they aren't webers, but they are still nice carbs and original to the car. Originality is what is selling these early cars now.

Email me if you need help troubleshooting the ignition system. BTDT many times.

You absolutely got to get it running otherwise you will never get a good price for the car. How hard can it be to get a carb'd motor to spark?

Looking at the car, it fell quickly from grace if "only 7 years ago" it as professionally maintained and now? yeesh. Sell the wheels (since they are nice and shiny (at least one is anyway)) and be lucky to get $5k for the rest. Maybe its just the pics and its surroundings, but it looks like it needs quite a bit spent to make it a $20K "T"

I think selling the wheels would be wrong. they are what came on the car orginally and are what make this 911 stand out from most. as far as the finish. the fronts are refinished, i didnt have the rear done yet.

I think your right about the surroundings. But im not a wealthy person. Im only twenty years old. and i dont come from a futunate following either. and unfortunatly this car is just a dream. im doing my best to preserve it. but it really deserves much better.
the car came from one of the wealthest people in our area. and was given the best care up till the owners health caused her to loose the car (2000) . when she retired she became my grade school art teacher. i remember seeing this car often at school. its really a nice car. but most look for pretty right off the bat. and are seeing the car in the body work stage.one step away from being a very beautiful car.

FieroChris, I meant no disrespect about the surrounding, just calling it as I see it. If the car was presented in a pristine bodyshop environment, perhaps the perception would be different.

I also read a lot of your EMOTIONAL attachment to the car. Money can't replace emotion and when the two mix, no one is happy. No one else out here may share that same emotional attachment.

Bottom line: It's a 36 year old car that doesn't run and needs to be restored. How much would you pay for, say, a 1971 camaro in the same condition? 10K? I doubt it. you didn't ask how much would one pay for a fully restored, running, original 911T Targa, you asked for a price "as is".

Objectively :
I see lots of surface rust on the car. I see no shots of the front pan, trunk, batter boxes. or rear seat area (and floorboards) I see an engine compartment and suspension parts that simply look like fresh black paint was put on them. I see a cracked dash, bad door pockets, some aftermarket floormats and damaged carpet underneath (by drivers left foot). I see shiny PMO's but no understanding of why they were bought or installed. I see no top (so the car sits outside, exposed to all weather conditions. I see (at least) surface rust and paint bubbles in the door jams

obviously, you'd rather have a V-8!
