pls help with vlaue of 912
Hi I have am looking at a 912
could you folks help me come up with a price range for this car.. Its a 67, and I think I verified that b/c it has the 5 gauges in the dashboard I looked at a price guide at the book store today... it said conditon 5 @ 2800 and condition 4 at 5800 I would say this car is in condition 4 minus or 5 plus plus. using this criteria: *4 - Fair* - Runs and drives OK but needs work throughout the vehicle. Body shows signs of wear or previous restoration work. Any rust should be minimal and not in any structural areas. Cosmetics, body, and mechanics all need work to some degree. *5 - Poor* - In need of complete restoration, but is complete and not a rust bucket beyond repair. May or may not run and drive. Not roadworthy the car was purchased by current owner 1987, was a DD for a while. Went into storage in her garage for at least the last 8 years.. her husband says that running gear is top notch, and went down the road straight and true. The engine runs well (says the owner) but needs the carbs cleaned/rebuilt from sitting. We almost tried to start it up but did not. Owner claims the real value is in the running gear as he said it drove so nice. Air Cleaners in back seat. Seats have very little padding left. Rust with holes in the forward battery box. Rust Holes in the drivers floor, Rust in the passenger floorboards, no holes but it looks like it will give way at any time, very soft metal. Some bubbling in drivers side rocker along the chrome piece. doors/decklid/trunklidv edges have no visible rust. Wheels have some pitting, I dont have the eye to tell if they are real porsche wheels or re-pros. Tires are getting pretty dryrotted. Paint dusty and dull, but may shine up with some elbow grease. and now for the PICS! Thanks to pelican parts & community. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I would say $1500-2,000 at the most.
Parts and rust repair cost just as much as the 911. You can find a real nice 912 on runing condtion for under 10k.

So.. New flor pans.. New trunk pan (front pan) which is key because that is where the front suspension attaches too.
Check door frames/latchposts as they like to rust too. Also check the Longitudinals where the floor pans attached.. they like rust too. Gas tank likely has rust if sitting so long and well, you know you need at least a carb rebuild if not more. Mirrors are wrong Ventilation controls appear missing. Paint likely wont come back. Remeber its nearly 40 years old! Rims look correct. Also.. Who cares about 8 years ago.. Guess what, before I wrecked my last car it was perfect.. my point is, you are not buying the car how it was 8 years ago but how it is now. The seller doesn't seem to "get that" point. Current condition is everything. What is your goal with the car? Do you want to restore it? turn it into something else? As someone else mentioned, you could spend a bit more moneuy upfront and have a much nicer car to live with. Age and relative rarity give it some value. Not to compare completely apples and oranges, but a rusted out "original" 356 speedster sold for 60K recently and it needed a $100K restoration. Even rusting away the 912 will become more valuable with time.
