Price check 1977 3.2 conversion
I have had this car for about 4 years I put most of the suspension on the car, brand newsport konis, front and rear adjustable bars, it has a 3.2 that just had a top end rebuilt on it.(just finished)
the paint is ok, the interior has RS carpets it comes with 2 sets of tires street/autocross and 2 sets of torsion bars street/autocross. They have quit the autocrossing at the PCA here, and my kid is jumping horses and is time to change the porsche for a biger/better horse for her.(she tried one last week end and I really like it) I just wanted to get an idea of a fair value for this car. I'know I worn't recoup the cost on the investment. Thanks This ![]() For this ![]() |

I am not going to hazard a guess, but I can tell you what I
know based on my experience looking at cars and following the market. As you know, 77 is one of those disliked years but because of all the smog equipment constricting the engine, and you have solved that problem by upgrading the engine. I know one person selling a red/black 1974 with 3.2 & carrera brakes for 10k right now, and I know of another person selling a black 1974 with good mechanicals (redone motor, tranny) but need a complete paint job for 8.5k. Both of these sellers were having a touch time last time I was in contact with them. You do have some other desirable upgrades such as the RS panels & ducktail, then again you are selling in an area with less potential Porsche buyers -- it took a long time for deanslist.us to sell his car in San Antonio and I think in the end it went to a long-distance buyer, and .. as in the other threads, the market is extremely soft right now. I may be interested ![]() could be helpful.

smog states
Another issue for you is equipment required by smog states. In Bernallilo County (Albuquerque), the equipment required is what came on the body year, not the engine. So, the inspectors will look for a smog pump and thermal reators for a 77. Even though you've got a cleaner burning, more modern engine, it doesn't matter. Government in action.
That set up you have is a GREAT auto cross daily driver combo. Scott |

I think in California you are alllowed to upgrade the engine, but only to a newer model year (as he has done), and then once you do that you are subject to whatever smog equipment is associated with that year and engine. Fred - did you keep the stock cat, heat exchangers, and muffler that came with the 3.2, if so if I am right, it may pass California smog.

So Anybody care to give me an opinion as to what a fair price would be for this car? I'm going to put it up for sale this week, and it needs to go. We have found a horse for my kid
Thanks |

Im thinking 10-12k, maybe 11k? Feel free to list all the things you've spent because I'm sure its a lot and you may not recoup... stock 77s are really not liked and they normally go for between 6-9k from what I've seen and even excellence puts them in that range (excellence in my opinion normally bloats up the values)... and you have some great mods there including the RS aspects and the 3.2 (I'm assuming you have the 915 tranny still), its just its a horrible time to sell, you are looking at mostly long-distance buyers most likely -I am able to buy a genuine 87 3.2/ with g50 for $13.8k locally right now. Does the 3.2 have a normal cat so that It'd pass california smog?

Actually I had a buyer within 6 weeks for my car, the paperwork took a few weeks between myself and the buyer. During the 3 weeks of paperwork back and forth, I had 6 more offers, and since had 5 more...how funny. Anyway, It went to a good home in Indiana...from El Paso though, not San Antonio.

A stock, unmolested and properly updated '77 is a $9-11K car. The 3.2 is a plus for some and not for others. Maybe ask $13K and see what happens? Seems thats what good "driver" SC's and Carerra are going for. Hybrid car makes pricing hard and finding a buyer who wants your particular upgrades also harder. Most first timers want a shiney, easy to drive car. Hard core folks buy with a particular interest (DE, Club Race, AX, Concours etc). Good luck on the sale. Like the yellow
