Porsche Crest Value? 74 RSR Clone/79/930 Base

I would like to know the value of my 74 RSR Clone based on a factory US 79 930.

This vehicle took part in the 2007 New Years Day Run. Nothing but compliments and inquiries received. One thing unique about this RSR Clone: Factory I/C all hidden under a duck tail w/o any ugly cuts or notches.

-Ownership since 1999
-No rust/frame damage.
-175K miles/chassis
-1.5k miles/fresh rebuilt 3.3 930 Turbo engine.
-Top/bottom rebuild/AASE Motors Fullerton, Ca.
-B&B/RSR front oil cooler
-Euro Exhaust w/gutted euro muffler
-930 4 spd
-Suspension/Steve Alarcon 23/33 T-bars, Bilsteins
corner balance to 200 lb driver
-Weight under 2700 when spare, tool kit and compressor removed w/ 1/2 tank of fuel.
-9.5" X 11" Fuch's by Lindsey powder coated black
-Tires 275/315
-Roll bar
-Recaro SRD's
-Schroth 5pt Harnesses
-New windshield
-New headliner
-RS carpet kit
-RS door panels
-Prototipo
-H-4's

Depending of value, I may consider the sale of this vehicle. Your thoughts and input are greatly appreciated.

Paul

Don't park your cars in a handicapped spot!

Good looking car, resale red.
Some good go fast parts.
Has it been sorted at the track?
Have the shocks been re valved for those T bars?
Adjustable sway bars?
Any lap times at Big Willow?
A fresh car with lap times to back it up might add value.

Will it pass a smog test and as important pass the visual inspection?

Ask AASE I bet they know what it's worth.

Porsche Crest

ted,

This car has never been tracked.
Although the car has track potential if desired.
Hence the car is not sorted for track presently.
I pass smog every time without problem.
79 930's are non-catylist vehicles.

My goals were:

-RSR Clone with track potential and appearance.
-Able to pass smog.
-Able to run on pump gas (I use 100 Octane anyway)
-Street legal.
-Blistering perfomance (by street standards)
-Able to hold it's own with 997 twin turbo in straights (unplanned accomplishment at 2007 New Years day run. It is all about power to weight.

Thanks again for your thoughts and input.

Paul

Paul I think your car should get north of $30k
To me (only to me and not the market) is worth more than a stock 930. I love the RSR look (building one myself), the wider Lindseys etc. and I think it is well sorted for street driving and DE.
There are a coule of things that I would have done differently but they are minor details.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. It's indeed a beautiful car!

I think the value will be highly dependent on build quality. If the car is well-built, documented and sorted, then north of 30K is possible, but you'll have to find just the right buyer. For that money, there are quite a few cars with beaucoup bucks sunk in them (60-80K or more)

Having to SMOG is a negative in my book. 'Turbo' RSR clone is kind of unusual -- may be good or bad, again buyer dependent. The car certainly LOOKS great, but value is all in the details. As a big believer in PPIs, I have found some modified cars are great deals, but many are so much lipstick-on-a-pig (no implication RE your car here)

Price it for what you think is fair and see what happens...

I'd say mid 30's. Turbos are a tough sell, people are scarred to death of reliability issues which are way overblown (no pun intended). I agree with Teo I think it's a beautiful car, a big improvement over a stock 930, not bad for changing bumpers and a decklid.

Not to nit pick but I'm kind of missing the RSR clone part. It's not a long hood the mirrors are not periond correct nor turn indicators etc. I'm kind of with pu911. Besides removing the rockers, changing bumpers and decklid it's pretty much a turbo.
Don't get me wrong it is stunning in the pictures and I hope you get what you want for it but I just don't think that a lot of people looking for a RSR clone are going to except this car as one

Technically it's hybrid between a 73 RSR and a 74 IROC, or you could call it a 3.0 RS clone w/ wrong tail. I happen to think that turbos make a great base for a hot rod. You already have big body, big brakes better suspension and an engine that can upgraded with some pretty simple but not cheap mods for stunning performance. The only rap is they are heavy. I had a 79 930 I was going to do the same thing to but I ended up seliing and buying a race car. Paul good luck with sale if you decide to sell. As a comp, Hank from GT racing has had a similar looking car on an SC base (stock drivetain and suspension) for 28K nice looking car but no performance.

Porsche Crest This Is Great!

I am getting a lot of good feedback from everyone. Good feed back can also be of a different opinion, which I am very open to and in some cases agree. Phil, and others hit a lot of good notes.

You are all right...it is my redition of a RSR/IROC Hybrid. The 73 and IROC upon delivery came with the duck tail. I like the vintage look and took it as a personal challenge to fit a factory I/C without having any ugly cuts or knotches in the tail. Stealth Power.

In addition, factory 74 RSR Flares are even wider than the 930 flares. Hence their use of 917K wheels. My plan for the mirrors are the 935 mirrors and shave the doors. There is always something to do or change to better the appearance.

But as far as reliability, I drove the last rebuilt for 120K before I recently had it done again. BTW it was running well and passed smog prior. It all depends on how you maintain and treat your vehicle.

Since the rebuild, I have done the 1K miles break in and major service. Now the car has another few hundred miles, which came from drives to car shows. I no longer drive the car daily and now run race fuel. Again, what ever is best for the car....I do.

BTW, examples for 74-75 RSR's can be seen on-line at google images.. They are of course short hood and wider than my example.

Just had a thought. With the other RSR Clone, SC based, selling for $28K....What would the cost be to make the improvements necessary to equal the performance of a 930 based Clone. Food for thought.

Lastly, all your input and thoughts are greatly appreciate. I am always open to feedback. For the local's, I will be attending the old "Crystal Cove" Irvine Ca. show tomorrow 6:30am. Then a fun drive to the 912 Registry meet in Seal Beach Ca. Drop by and say hi.

Paul

PS>....I'll either be in the RSR clone or my silver 70 911

Paul,
The botton line of course is what car is worth to someone who will crack open their checkbook. The only way to find out is put car on the market and see what happens, if it doesn't sell you haven't found the right buyer or price is too high.

I say about $24K...not too sure your car can hang with a 997TT, the guy driving on new year's day was definately pussyfooting if your car was able to "hold its own." You have a nice car, but I agree with some of the others in that it is kind of half-way RSR clone. If you want to get another couple grand out of it, I'd return its exterior appearance all back to stock, sell-off the fglass bits and tail, have the wheel lips stripped and reanodized in factory finish, and you'll recoup a decent amount of money and then put it out on the market.

Might be interested when you ready to sell

Live in orange county. Been looking for an RS Clone that is well executed and has above average build quality. Shot me an email to jrwarden@pacbell.net when you are ready to sell the car.

Thanks,

jim

Guys,
I know Paul personally and have seen his car. He is extremely particular, as straightforward as they come and built this car as if he were going to keep it forever. Build quality took precedence over costs.

The car is gorgeous and extremely well executed. For a street / hot rod cruising vehicle it is turn key. From what I remember, not much would be necessary to make it 100% track ready.

His loss (hopefully small) will be someone's gain.

The car is gorgeous! Having had AASE motors do a full motor rebuild and many other things, I can only imagine what Paul has into it. I'm also aware of Paul's motivation to sell, which is admirable, sound and totally unrelated to cars. He is not out to dump a lemon.

Having seen the documentation some time ago, I know it is well documentated.

Good luck, Paul!!

Put a sign on it at the new Crystal Cove, you'll have to fight off the buyers.

Doug
