Two summers ago I bought a beautiful 89-911 Cab with 42k on the odo for $24,000. The owner fully explained, and had pictures and repair bills for the damage a tree did when it fell on the front 1/3 of the car. I drove it 3 times, I climbed in, under and all around the car - very good repair and paint job -- but, it's a repaired 911. I've put 12k on it without a hitch - runs strong - good clutch - doesn't over heat - and not a drop of oil on the floor - not a drop!
I will probably move up to a 993, or 996 in a year or two -- my question --- will there be a buyer like me out there, or did I make a mistake? |

I think there will always be an audience for your car. As cars get older, it is expected that they have some type of repair work. If they don't, you are very lucky, looking at a big dollar garage queen, or staring at a dishonest seller.
In 2 years, you car will be 20. Look at the number of SCs and Carreras with no work in the market. Not too many left. Unlike Ferraris and such, most 911s got driven, often daily.

Does it have a salvage title? This will really affect the value negatively even if the damage wasn't that bad and you have documented repair bills. If it does, just keep it and enjoy it and you'll have no problems getting your money's worth out of it!

My 89
clean pennsylvania title.
the absolutely only issue with it is that the "gaps" are a little off on the passenger door - and the front hood needs tweaking. to the average onlooker - no issues - but, to the trained porsche eye - it's there. i plan to take it to a good body man and see what would have to be done to make it perfect. |

I think gaps in doors are more common in cabs than coupes because of flex. Can anyone comment on this?

I guess that's a possibility, but I thought they just didn't take enough time to make sure it was perfectly aligned. There is no frame problem - I had that checked - and it tracks straight - I had someone follow me for 5 miles or more.
