Ebay = BEWARE = 1974 911

Old habits are hard to break... I have been scouring Ebay for Porsche 911 for so long that I could not help looking tonight. I just bought a 911, so I am not really "in the market" anymore.

Ebay item 150101419228 is for a 1974 911. Owner states new SC motor with 33,000 miles on it. If you read the receipts carefully, they tell a very different story.

The engine was rebuilt in 1999, top and bottom for $11,000. The engine had been rebuilt 70,000 miles prior to that, per the mechanics comments. The serial number on the engine is shown on the receipt. That serial number falls in the production sequence of 1974-75.

Instead of being a new 3.0 SC, it is a twice rebuilt 2.7.

The owners Ebay story is that he does not know what he is doing. His wife inherited the car from her father. The receipt shows SC parts in the parts column, which may be why he thinks the motor is an SC.

The starting price is $6,950.00. The value changes considerably with the difference between a "new" SC motor and a twice rebuilt 2.7L. It may be a great car for the the starting price, if you didn't mind gambling on having to buy a new motor. The rust would also scare me away.
