914-6 conversion value??
I have lusted after a 914-6 (conversion) with a decent powerplant for some time. I want to build one but don't have the time right now. I have enough in the way of projects on my plate.
Can a good one be had for 14-16K? Cheers

You aren't going to find a top tier car for that amount but you can find a decent driver. The problem is that they don't pop up all that often.

For me, it's hard to justify spending 15k on a 914-6 conversion when you can get a decent early 911 targa for that. A 914 with the same engine would be quicker and handle better than the 911, but the 911 will probably have better resale.

![]() I just thought a 914-6 would be a fun street toy to go with my 911. Thanks for the link, that particular just doesn't do it for me though. I am more curious than anything about the value as it might be the fall before I am ready to step up and put the cash down. Cheers

Of course, cars converted to 6s can run a wide range of quality, from all out 3.6 sixes done up right that can be worth $50000, to one with a 2.7 hacked into it that is worth $5000.
But in general, it's hard to get more than $20K for your nicely converted 914-6. Because once you get near that number, you start to push into genuine 6 territory. Actual purchase price of $14-16K can get you a very nice converted 6, with a 3.0 or a 3.2 in it. Sometimes people will advertise those in the low 20s, but unless they are very nice, they don't get that money, and end up selling in the range you are looking at. |

Excellent........
I have seen a few in the 20's that I thought *may* be worth it, but didn't feel like pulling the trigger. I would even take on with a 2.4/2.7 and then build my own motor for it at a later date. I will keep and eye on the classifieds and see what comes available. Cheers

I would strongly advise you to get a real 914/6. It will
retain its value (and likely increase) as it has some real collector value. A conversion will always be a modified 914. I speak from experience I will never build or buy another 914/6 conversion. By the way, 914/6s are very nice cars, cornering is awsome! |
