85 RS Backdate - Opinions?
This car really caught my attention this morning....or maybe it was way too early (6:00am) but I'm really liking it as I keep looking. Any opinions on what was done with the car and what do you think it will go up to? Does anybody know the car? How have the changes effected the value...raised it or lowered it? I'm unfamiliar with 85's but how is maintenance, any different from my 74/3.0L? Thanks and appreciate any feedback.

At first glance, it appears to be a nicely detailed black Carrera. Lots of shine and decent enough photos in front of some nice property to get your attention.
However, after reading his description, we find that it's not really an RS copy. It's only received a new coat of paint, a ducktail, some graphics, red stitching, new floor mats and red Fuchs. Hardly a 'backdate' or RS replica or a full restoration. Yes, the tranny is claimed to be freshened, but the motor was left as is. What about the rest of the car? Why was the car repainted? Porsche paint is very robust and a good detailer can get older paint looking quite good without the need for a repaint. Adding a ducktail doesn't require the entire car to be repainted. The 2.7 RS history text is pure fluff and adds zero value to this auction. What's the point of that? Mileage is unknown. The original speedo was pulled and replaced with one with 5500 miles. How many miles are really on the engine and suspension? Waaaaaaaay to much detail left out on this car and one can't be fooled by the shiny paint job, red Fuch's, fancy red stitching and Armor All. I like it at first glance, but would have many, many questions for the seller before I would consider purchasing. With the limited information about service history, how good the repaint is, why it was repainted and it's current mechanical condition, it's hard to put a value on the car. With mileage unknown, it's almost impossible. $13k? $15k? $18k? It's just a 1985 3.2 Carrera with a repaint and a duck tail. It's not an RS replica/backdate. Good Luck! Looks can be deceiving....this is what the seller posted to my questions concerning maintenace history....
"The car had 100K plus, the old owner had all the work done on the car. I just did the cosmetical update. No papers on any of the work done, his or mine."

RS Replica --- HA!
I looked and drove this guys 73 RS -- first class junk with a new black paint job that was just ok. Same story with this one as he had with the first one.
He got some sucker in Florida to buy his 73 RS replica (which by the way was a 70T not a 73 car) for $27K+. This is exactly the reason not to believe in all of the nice marketing fluff. Wonder if the vin # checks out on car fax? Beware...
