what are the major obstacles encountered when installing a complete 911 drivetrain into an early 912?

well, considering the factory did this, there can't be too many. I would guess you would need to acquire a 911 drive train
 What year 912? IIRC, Porsche did more than swap motors. I think brakes, torsion bars and other complimentary components were also upgraded in the 911 vs the 912.
