Extremely Rusted 1970 European Targa, $2800
(I'll post this here, since I don't mind comments on a For Sale item.)
Pictures here: http://home.earthlink.net/~jaegan23/Porsche911/ I bought this car after it had been sitting out in the weather for a few years. The Webers (and part of the K&N filters -- the rainshields are rusted out) are not in the pictures -- the right carb. had a lot of water leak though it (you can see the condition of the right intake -- there was water in the #4 cylinder when I got it!) so its rebuild-ability would be questionable, but I think it's OK. I have the right carb. disassembled and will get pictures up eventually. The motor is a 2.2; it has a clear title (in my name) -- though it is listed on the title as a "1969" the VIN and motor number indicate it is a 1970. (I think I can get that changed with the DMV for about $25, if it is critical for anyone.) I've changed the oil and turned over the motor. It has a spark (after I got a good ground to the motor) but I have not tried to fire it up. The front fenders are solid (I suspect they were replaced at some time, considering the rest of the condition of the car). The rear fender flares are fiberglass. The early style Carrera tail is fiberglass. (Horn grilles with the European through-the-grill fog lamps have been sold.) It does not have original front seats. (The after-market seats are not pictured. They are in OK condition but the fabric is stained.) Muffler is also not pictured; the outside condition looks OK. I've been planning on pulling and selling parts from this for months, but am finding I just don't have the time so thought I'd see if anyone is interested in the whole thing for what I think is a reasonable price. Over the next few weeks, I'll get additional pictures up (like of the carbs and dash cover). Email or PM if there are any specific areas you want pictures of. I usually NEVER suggest not repairing rust on an early car because they are so rare and are becoming so few between. However, your car should have the engine transmission pulled, and maybe that hand brake lever and then trash the rest. I assume that I just said the obvious and you were going to do that anyway correct?

I would be interested in the passenger side armrest and door handle if you decide to part the car. Also interested in any available door pockets.

Coldstart -- much of the interior is in OK shape, but I'm not sure what is original since the car has been updated at some point. (I got the old interior door panels when I acquired the car -- they were too far gone and were discarded.) I'll keep you in mind if I start pulling parts to sell, but will let you know it will probably be a long time coming. I'm finding I just don't have the time to play with it. I'm thinking that my only real prospects on selling the whole thing is if someone is working on a project and see that they could use a good number of parts from the car. I'm hoping to get some pictures of the Webers and (partitial) K&N filter kit up this weekend -- I think I'll post in the parts section too, since this really is a parts car more than anything else. Coldstart -- I'll try to get some pictures of the door pockets/armrest, but am trying to hold off pulling parts since the more parts missing, the less likely I see my prospects on selling the whole car become. |
