RS Replica on eBay

I would appreciate everyone's opinion about this RS replica currently on eBay. Here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AME WA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300122096484&rd=1,1

Item # 300122096484

Seems very well sorted to me, but would appreciate more opinions about it. Thanks in advance for your help.

I will bet that close inspection will show that this is a really nice car and worth more than anyone will pay. It will certainly bring much less than the cost incurred building it. I watch the RSR clone prices and I am building one myself and I can tell you that without labor, I will lose money if I sold it right after finishing it. So, with labor from TRE and parts, it will be a good deal for whoever buys it.....

Trader, what do you think it will go for? You keep up these more than most of us. I would think 30K would be a good buy if it is as represented.......

My Quick guess is that when it goes it goes for around 30k. You cant build it for that but we all know you lose money on these builds. Might take a while to find the right buyer I think its been eBay'd once or twice already. Maybe one of the TRE guys will chime in and tell us about the car?

to me this car is worth 35k. I base that on increase in demand for early cars, quality of shop who did the work, and the improvements to the car made. If this were a 3.6 swap I'd say you are at 40 and up.

TRE makes a great car. More of a track car than what most Sunday driver/buyers are looking for. Should be interesting to see the final bid. I'm betting it won't go over $30K.

Too bad it's white. There are so many cool colors for early cars. 30k certainly sounds reasonable these days even though this car is a bit stuck between street and strip. I personally would like to see a full cage, better seats and brakes for the track. Or a car that's overall closer to "stock".

The engine sounds like a nice build but I'd prefer new mahle p/c and MFI would have been nice, over carbs ...

The longer I keep thinking, the more I understand this thing isn't selling like hot cakes.

RS Replica value

This is a very well built car and is very very nice. The seller wants upper $30K +(my guess $38-39K). While I would be very interested in the upper $20's it gets pretty hard do justify a lot of $$ for a weekend fun car. Maybe it would be worth more to me if I went to the track and played more often.

Bottom line, I would bet that the bidding doesn't go over $30K and this car will go unsold. Still is a nice car however.

to build a car like this normally takes twice what it is sold for...

to put it in further perspective, I wouldn't sell my early hotrod for less than 60k... and thats 'maybe'. There are a lot of people who like to nick pick cars that they really can't afford nor understand. A TRE built RS clone is a steal at 35k.

that might have been 'about fair' but as you said, they have the right to sell for what they want to.

TRE RS Clone

per the seller, he would accept a $41K offer.

A closing comment.....

Perceived value and actual value are the sole perspective of the individual. My 02 996 tt has a blue book value of about $68K but I wouldn't part with it for anything less than $80K.

I have several friends who are in to the "street hot rod" market and have invested $100K+ into their individual rides but will never recover close to 50% if they sold out. It's a hobby and not a 401K investment. I think we all understand that perspective.

Re: TRE RS Clone

When it comes to selling/buying a modified sports car of any kind, there are three prices:

1.) The seller's asking price.
2.) A price determined by "experts" who have no intention of buying the car.
3.) Real money offered by interested buyers.

So in this case, the seller will wait for someone to offer him $41,000. I admire his optimism and wish him the best of luck.

I have a 914/3.2 street/track car. Between myself and the previous owner, there's about $70,000 invested. Stupid investment. Fast car.

I hope no one thinks any of these modded cars are investments. 99% of the Porsches made and on the road are not investmets ( okay I cant support that with hard facts but the huge huge majority are not investmets ) unless you can put a price on the fun factor.

okay just checking

I see comments around the boards sometimes where people think some models like the 87-89's are an "investment" which will pay off
