How much would you pay for this car sight unseen? Houston TX area
What would you pay for this car without a PPI? Talked to the owner and he wants to end the auction, so I think I can get it for a good price, what do you think its worth? Anyone in Houston area want to check it out for me?

Yeah I know, PPIs are great, but might not have the chance to do one, and could pick up a deal. What do you think its worth?

I'm a newbie, so take this as a FWIW, but I asked myself this question more than a few times when viewing cars on E-bay. Being a numbers guy & wanting to be able to trust my car, I approached it like this...
Assumed Avg. Retail -- about $18k +/- Assumed total engine rebuild -- deduct $8k Assumed tranny rebuild & new clutch -- deduct $3k Assumed replacement of other key essentials (steering, brakes, belts tires, and anything else you can think of...) -- deduct $5k Assumed Total deducts -- $16k +/- Delta = a fair deal = $2k Might be bad logic, but at least it's logic. Looks like gt3racerich wasn't too far off. I don't think anyone will take $2k...could be parted out for more if the owner likes hassles. Good luck,

Now in 993 land ...

5k would be what I'd buy this for sight unseen. Sure sounds like it needs a valve job, has crappy paint and needs a lot of other help. You can part it out and get your 5k back, worst case scenario. I hope you did not buy this at all and if you did, you did not spend more than 5k.

Imagine the worst condition 911 you've ever encountered, inside and out, including some sort of replacement fiberglass targa top (and who even makes s*** like that?), an engine, tranny, clutch and brakes that need to be completely replaced. Sooo you'd be investing $30,000ish to get the car to be worth $16,000 and still depreciating? Sounds like an offer of $250 to me.
But better yet -- RUN, FOREST, RUN! ![]()
