..... lotsa details - but over all a very nice car
Don't want to make a big stink etc .. . I did send details to those of you that emailed. I can tell you that the seller made a friggin decent profit if indeed it sold for north of $30k |

Gorgeous car! I find this car one of the few cars out there for sale that is actually a "good" car. The CIS T are the most desired or should I say, "most valuable" of the Ts, so who knows what this car might bring. Looks mightly nice to me. There was a CIS T that sold for $125k not long ago, so if reserve is 30's, looks like a good buy. No affiliation.

Looks like the $30K was a scam. Car has been relisted and currently sits at 15k. Nice car, too bad it went to a flipper, IMO.

I got tired of keeping track of flippers and head hunters - whatever.... I am down to my one 72 911 - and that's just fine with me - I drive the piss out of it. |

Bottom Line
Quote:
The bottom line is, what's wrong with someone making a buck to support their family? You should have sold it for more. There is no room for jealousy and envy in this forum. I lurk a lot for parts, etc. to support my passion, but post very little, and only when pertinent. You are out of line. Period. I have no interest in the car, but have pored over all 100+ photos the guy posted. It looks like a great car and I would love to own it. It's gorgeous and I hope he gets ALL the money. |

$30K bid retraction
Ossi,
$30K bid was for real, It was my bid. That is until a little help from a poster on this site. I learned that the car had been repainted in a different color...a Porsche color...but not the color that came on the car. There were also some other minor "issues" that were not correctly described by seller. All in all it is a very nice car, but for $30K+ I'm looking for a no stories, no excuses, and correct car. If anyone out there knows of any please let me know. Thanks, John

John,
I guess "scam" was a poor choice of words--I meant to describe a sale that fell through or wasn't really a sale and not necessarily a reflection on the person bidding. Hope you took no offense by the word, your explanation is quite understandable and reasonable in my mind, when these cars push the $30K range. Perhaps I should have said, "misfire."

73.5 911T
Ossi,
No offense taken. You hit the nail on the head...at $30K+ there need to be no questions. By the way. Did any of you see the orange 73.5 CIS w/27,000 miles on ebay??? I talked to the owner and made an offer...a very generous offer. He called me back this morning to tell me he had accepted $50K from a guy who flew in, saw the car and wrote the check. Could this be a new high water mark???

I won't spill any beans, but the orange 73 went to a regular contributor to this forum. It made me happy to see such a fine example go to an appreciative home. I will let the buyer announce his purchase on his own schedule.
As far as being the high water mark, probably so--for the time being. If the description was correct (and I trust it was, given who bought it) this was a low mileage, original, one owner car with complete history. Also, a sunroof! Given that, and in this market climate, the price you gave doesn't seem excessive IMO but I don't see it as the next level of the bar for these cars--yet. This was a unique find. Most everything else on the market has had something less to offer be it a repaint, lack of history, high mileage, etc., but simple economics says that eventually even these will approach and might pass the orange 73. BTW, let's watch the 73E that is currently listed at $35K with no bids.

73.5 Cis
Ossi,
Congrats to whoever scooped up that orange 73.5 CIS. Even if the price is correct the buyer got themselves a rare gem with only 27K miles. As you said they are few and far between. John

1) Prove that I am eroneously bad mouthing a car. Do you know the car better than I or the most recent owner? 2) Prove that I intend to tank the sale 3) I suppose you approve of any method to make a buck for your family - nice specious argument... 4) I sold the car to a friend of mine and was happy with the sale price 5) Who say's anyone here is jealous or envious? 6) I'm outta line for privately answering questions on a car not honestly described? 7) Shut up.... save your blather and bleat for someone else. |

I actually agree with most of your comments -- I don't have a problem with someone who really knows a car giving additional information to a potential buyer, but I don't understand the "attitude" against someone who buys a car to resell it. (And I have my doubts that the offer to tell a potential buyer about this car was a genuine offer to "help" a potential buyer.) I guess it is considered "holy" to sell to an enthusiast, and somehow "unclean" to sell to someone wanting to re-sell to try to make a profit? I'm guessing it is an attitude of those who like to think of themselves as being in an "upper class" of the population. The "money-grubbing, lowly working class" buys things to resell at a profit, where the "upper crust of society" buys such cars solely for their "love of the machines." My position: You sell a car, what the new owner does with it is his own damn business. |

I've flipped a handful of 911s over the past couple of years. But for me, 'flipping' means putting money in to fix obvious problems and sell a more complete, satisfying car to someone who would not buy it otherwise.
Big boo hoo for all the people who have sold cars to see them resell for more. The market went up; the flippers were protected; money was made. One of these days, the bubble will pop, following the RE market, no doubt, and then those inclined can feel sorry for the flippers holding inventory. My latest 'flip' has taken a year and a half, required replacement of engine, clutch, wheels, tires, rear bumper, rear lid, seats and some paint. Will I be repaid for my efforts? Yes I will. Will I feel badly for the P.O. who let the car get to the point where it needed all that? I will not.

I believe much of the emotion coming out in this thread is based on different definitions of "flipper." Techweenie, you would not fit my description of a flipper. You may not intend to keep a car for a long period or for your own personal satisfaction, but you put time, effort, and money into the car to improve its status. You have performed a service and are certainly expected to reap a reward, especially in a climbing market. You do take a risk, should you wind upside down if the market stalls or collapses.

Do you think that the longhood market is going to crash in the near future?
Excellence's spring 07 early 911 market update was an eye-opener....it showing a 'so-so' 71 911t coupe going from under 7k to 15k (from 2003 to 2007) was an eye opener. I pick up a 71t coupe tomorrow night, and I want to feel good that I'll be able to recoup my purchase price should the need arise.

My goal is to net around 15% profit on a car flip, and if you keep to that kind of margin and buy smart, you're far less likely to git hurt. And, of course, you can enjoy your 'flippable' car in the meantime! On your impending purchase: you're probably okay if you bought smart. The recent past has shown the best investments are the most pristine, unmolesed examples.

the seller ended the auction early. it was at $24,210 and the reserve wasn't met. i'm curious, after you made the $30,000 offer, what triggered the bid retraction? Did the seller confess it was a color change? Or did you learn about the color change on this board and then you retracted the bid? |
