Seems like a nice clean car? Pretty low "buy it now" price? Anybody know this car? ..or have any ideas on why it's not selling?

Miles, color change, 'mediocre' paint.

This appears to be our very own Jason Cullen's car.

Jason's deals usually sell, I can only speculate that the season's over and that entry level cars like this one appeals to people who have planning on their mind. school, kids ect...that the funs over....for now

Thanks for the input. I've seen this car available pretty much all summer...that's why it stands out to me. I actually like the color. I guess I'm just surprised a nice clean coupe lasted that long w/o a sale. Of course, I couldn't sell my Targa either, so....

Kinda wish I had the money...I'd rather have a coupe than a Targa. I could buy that and have my 80k mile "guts" put into it.

Then backdate it. :p

$9.4K price, closing in on 200,000 miles with apparently no rebuilt anything, bad color change paint job.

But the biggest problem is for a few thousand more, you can get one with half the miles and decent original paint, etc.

The is right on. High miles with no record of how it got there and the color change are big dings. There are always a zillion SCs and Carreras on eBay. The price of a good one from the get-go vice the cost of bringing a high-mileage example back to driver-quality or better status is not that great. Until that equation changes, it's tough to sell a less-than-stellar example SC or Carrera.

Same comments as above. High miles and really bad repaint. The painter did not remove the rear plate holder and painted around it and did not do the door jambs. Paint is dull and needs to be buffed/wet sanded. The left sugar scoop is mangled.

So what do we think it's worth?

I think you add up the value of the individual components. Maybe $7,500? The economics still make it hard to justify pouring a bunch of money into it when you can go out in the market and find better for less overall money.

This is a very curious thing about 911s. They won't fall much below their breakup value. It makes it hard to budget a project that you'll come out ahead on (and I've tried).

Starting bid is only $25 shy of his buy it now price! I saw better deals at the Ventura show this past weekend.

That's what I was thinking. If it's a straight, rust free car, $7500 seems like a good starting point if you were to...oh, I dunno...have TRE backdate the car into something special. :p

Of course, just rebuilding a 3.0 anymore seems like way more money than it's worth.

If by rebuilding you mean restoring, you're right given the current economics. Maybe in another decade or two down the road and things will be different.

Or maybe not. If a good, lower mileage SC or Carrera is purchased today, treated well (kept clean and garaged) and driven lightly (say 1,000 to 2,000 miles a year), the supply chain of good cars won't be dramatically different 20 to 30 years from now.

What's tired out a lot of 911s is inattention -- deferred maintenance, being parked outdoors all the time to bake in the sun, etc. The higher-quality cars have been pampered all along and will continue to be pampered as successive owners enter the picture. In general, good cars remain good cars.

I'd like to do a project restoration on a higher-mileage SC, but I just can't see a good exit strategy at the finish line (should I need an exit strategy). Betwixt and between.

Newbie who bought an 80 SC with less than 70K miles on it, looks maybe not perfect, but in a different league than the $9300 SC here. It's a no brainer to spend an extra $1700 to get a much better car, 1/3 the miles, etc.

What's the eBay car worth? Depends on what your definition of "worth" is. To me, personally, that's a borderline parts car. Because even at $5,000, to redo the paint, likely the engine, and likely tons of other stuff to get a nice car, it would be a bad deal, or at least a risky deal. If I had a friend looking for a nice SC to drive around, I'd recommend he keep looking for something much better for a little more money.

But if by "worth" you mean how much will it sell for, I think he can get $7500 for it. There are people who have limited funds but still want to get into a 911, and just can't get to the $11-12K range. So they'll bite at this one in the 7500 range.

(All, of course, IMO, FWIW. YMMV).
