1968 912/911
Hi guys, your opinions are invaluable to me, and I respect it greatly. In an effort to do some more research, I thought I'd show you guys another car I spotted on eBay, and ask you what you thought of it, and what you think the ballpark value is:
Thanks! ![]() Jon |

First, I do not have enough history to make any judgments concerning the voracity of the seller. With that being said same type of analysis; seats 3-5k, motor 3-5k, body 4-5k, misc 3k. The car has quite a few minor goodies. Low number here 13- high 18. Again, it is still a 912 title car.
It does seem there are quite a few available long hoods on the market. Are you considering other sources other than Ebay? I wish I was in the market I have seen quite a few beauties.

I agree with Luke regarding the "parts" value of the car and I would stress the fact it is a 912 conversion. That is only a concern on resale, not on operation if done properly, and will diminish the value of the car. As a buyer, you need to be very clear on what your goal is for any car you are looking for. If price is your main concern, then you may be able to pick this car up at a price considerably lower than if it was a titled 911 in the same condition. If you want the look and feel of an early 911 and don't care it is a non-factory recreation, then this could be a good deal--assuming the price stays low and the seller's information is accurate. Remember though, when it comes time to sell (and it will!), you will face the same situation as the current seller--offering a 912 as a 911--and the price will reflect that.
IMO, if you consider such a car, your PPI should be done by a "gold standard" Porsche-phile who is familiar with the subtle differences in 911/912 cars to be certain the conversion was top-notch.

Ossiblue is dead on.
As far as where to look. Under every rock and in every barn until you find your exact requirements. An effective search would be for you to provide a detailed description as a WTB notice on the classified board and enlist the assistance of the ever helpful Pelican faithful. I would also do the same on the Early 911S registry Board [very knowledgable] as well as Kurt's recommendation.

Well, 912s in this condish are like 6k max. Add premium for the motor. Hard to tell if the motor specs claimed are there without tear down. Those are standard aftermarket recaros. $500 max in that condish for the pair.
You could be getting a good hot rod basis but, could quickly be up to your ears in work too. The big tale is whether the body has structural rust. THe mounts for the 911 conversion are easy. The details for fuel provision, wiring and such is where some of the conversions fail. Jonbot, sending you a PM.
