I need to vent!
I just came back from looking at yet "another 911". In this case a '74 coupe.
11k asking price. Nice body and completely worn out and dripping like a sailor on liberty. When I opened the deck I also noticed gas seeping out of the fuel line. So lets see.....engine, trans, suspension, brakes. What are these people thinking? On the other hand what kind of car was I going to buy for 11K, what were my thoughts? My God has the whole world gone mad? This car was so slow I'm thinking, what this guy thinking? After our uninspiring ride (he wouldn't let me drive) he proclaims, "she really preforms eh'?" What in the hell am I supposed to say to that? One may be curious as to why I was looking at a '74 when I prefer 84 thru 86 coupe(no red or black). No smog for that year in my state. And the search continues for a proper car with no issues.......none. It seems that we, Americans, are breeding dumber people. So when I go to look at a car I can't tell if the knucklehead is playing dumb or is really dumb. Thank You Man Made Global Warming is a Man Made Lie |

Don't feel too bad, I had a similar experience when shopping for my 911. I found a '71 about 100 miles away that the guy proclaimed had NO RUST. After I drove the 100 miles out to see it, lifted up the carpet, and guess what? It had rust! Big gaping holes in the floorboards. His response was "I had no idea they were there", hah, laughable, as the guy reported to have owned the car for years, and on top of that, he owns a body shop!
The list of things wrong with the car was endless, and the test drive scared the s#@t out of me because it was so unsafe, it wandered all over the road, and believe it or not, the guy wouldn't budge from his $12,500 asking price. It was ludicrous, and when I made him an offer for what I thought was fair for the car, he said "You'll have to pry the car away from my widow's hands before you get it at that price." Don't worry, you'll find the right car, keep searching. And don't forget, some people have some real inflated ideas of what they think their cars are worth. They see the market prices of 911s rising, and think they can jump on the bandwagon using that car they've had sitting in the garage for a year taking up space.

I hate to break it to you, but you'll be seeing lots more rough cars if $11K is your pricepoint.

It isn't
I was looking at the car only because it requires no smog in Cal. I thought it may make a nice hot rod or fake Carrera. Since everything was worn out and I would be buying a body only it just seemed a little steep.

Boat
Tom, I was walking the dog (best buddy, don't tell my wife) at Shelter Island yesterday and came across floating hotel/yacht. I am a little confused as to when a boat becomes a ship.
Now at my age money doesn't empress me but I can't figure out how much something like this must cost. I reckon it is 150-175 ft and has Sat domes (5) atop like an Air Force mountain top. I am at a loss as to why but I don't like boats having grown up around those things. |
