...am I missing something?
Isn't this mirror exactly like the one offered by our host, and others, for around $125?  http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911E/POR_911E_BDYext_pg7.htm#item33 This looks like a good lesson in shopping for the best price.

There are a lot of eBay listings like that.
My favorite was the guy who offered a set of VIN plate mounting rivets that looked suspiciously like standard Home Depot aluminum rivets. There have also been quite a few folks selling Blaupunkt/Becker radio removal tools for 4-500% more than they cost at the dealer (then getting a similar markup on postage). I suppose you could say it's the Starbucks model: make it convenient and make convenience very profitable.
