Engine Value?

I'm going to look at an early 2.0 911 motor that a guy rebuilt 15 years ago and has been sitting in a garage since. I have it on good authority from my mechanic who sold him the parts that he is a good guy, knows Porche motors and the engine has good parts in it. It's in a project car than was never finished. It's a T motor with S P&C's and webers. Would need to have the seals renewed. Is it worth $4,000?

The price is not outrageous but the story is sketchy. I would have one of those mechanical aces in your area check it out before I purchased.

For a number of reasons, the 2.0 T engine is the least desireable of all the early motors. Small valves, mild cams, non counterweighted crank, Marrelli electrics, and so forth.

Not a bad engine, but very difficult to upgrade to anything better than the 110 hp it came with...

So as long as you are aware of this going in, and understand that a rebuild of this engine will not be significantly less expensive than any other 2.0 to 2.4 six, then the price is okay.
