Question $45k for a 72T?!?

http://carforsale.mybithead.com/Porsche_Website/index.htm

I seem to recall this car advertised here or one of the other boards several months back. While the car looks nice, I wonder what the seller has been smoking? Am I missing something here? I don't see how 90% original paint and the need for an engine re-seal justify a $25k+ premium for an otherwise ordinary T. What do you think? I have no affiliation with the car.

Thats a lot of money. There must be a markup for sentimental value

Its pretty clean. It is a 72 after all. It has the AC hooked up. It doesn't look like it needs much but that is to be determined. It doesn't look like it would need more than a detailing. If that is all true then a starting price of 45 with an actual sale at 37.5 is fair.

The number seems optimistic .

I would like a little more bling for my 45k. i.e. Blood orange/viper green. Who knows maybe someone from Europe will think it is worth it.

The 72T at The Stable Ltd has lingered for at least a month at $26,900, and the car is similarly equipped with, in my opinion, better colors, although it has been the subject of at least one complete repaint. There is a completely restored 72E that looks like it could be a concourse car advertised on this board for $43k, with better options. I can't see this car worth much more than $25k, and even then it would likely not be a quick sale.

That's dealer installed AC. Look at the 72 on The Stable Ltd. site to see what factory installed AC looks like.

Looks like price was lowered to 40k...

Still too high IMHO.

The low miles (if it can be verified) and the original paint explains the price, but the color kills it.

Really hard to put a number on a car when the seller tells you very little about the cars condition. I hate these sales writeups that want to take you down memory road and then give you a history lesson about the mark. Putting a number on the Stable T is difficult as a result. The color combo is not the most attractive, but I'd pay over 25K for a nice T, especially if it was a 72.

I must respectfully disagree. IMHO, the car doesn't have great options, doesn't have a great color, doesn't have great history, exterior condition is ok, no spares and it needs mechanical refreshing. If the car had 5,000 miles, it would be a different story. As it sits with the current market, I just don't think it's worth that much more than $25k. More, yes (and then only if the seller is willing to sit on it for a while), but not way more.

Guys,
Color is completely relative. I have owned a few viper green early 911's, a blood orange one and a conda green one. Belive it it or not, the ones that got both the most praise and most negative response were the viper green color. Some loved it (including me). Other people, friends of mine and my own g'friend hated viper green because they thought it made the car look plastic(y) or kitschy. To each his own. There is nothing wrong with a really nice light ivory colored early 911. In fact, it is probably one of the most flexible colors since you can add and subtract race stripes, decals etc. Back in the late 60's the most popular color of 911'/912's sold by the factory was light ivory. That's fact. Second most popular color was polo red (not guards red!), third was irish green, aga blue etc... Black was a special option color - even in 1972.

As for price, it does seem that $45k is a lot in the current market. One year ago it wouldn't have been. The 2.4T's with MFI are great all around street driving cars. Plenty of pep and a top speed of 130mph.

As for dealer vs factory installed a/c, I find the discussion laughable. Both were total bull**** systems that cut up the car and were expensive add-ons that gave very little in the way of a/c, but took at least 10hp off the engine and added some more useless weight to the back end of the car - where Porsche need it the most

On the subject of the engine, it concerns me that the seller has 20 pic's of the car, but only includes one pic of the engine compartment, and it isn't even a shot of the engine itself. Just the a/c compressor. WTF?!

What are those things on the parcel shelf? Is that part of the AC system? Never seen that before.

And what's with the NAPA oil filter? If you're looking for top dollar you could at least spend a few bucks extra for a Mahle or Bosch.

If this car's worth $45K, I'm calling my insurance company and upping my agreed-value policy to at least $30K.

I was hoping that wasn't the case. I'm assuming that's not some unusual, ultra-rare, very expensive factory premium sound option, right?

Come on Christien,
Those speakers would be a very easy thing to fix. You're just picking on this car now.

Maybe I am, but things like that and a NAPA filter might indicate previous owners' care, or lack thereof.
