Value of a 1987 carrera coupe?

I was going to look at a car tomorrow. Black coupe with gray sport seats. Four owner car who claims all original paint with common rock chips on hood. 125,000 miles on car. Motor rebuilt 15,000 miles ago J.E. pistons 9.9, Mahle cylinders from 3.2 to 3.4 bore with a 964 grind on cams; all documented with cd's and invoices. Appears to be pretty knowledgeable on the car.
Claims dyno at the wheels 230 h.p.

I am going to drive it. G-50 of course, alot more power in a carrera. I am already a little concerned of the added weight of a carrera over the sc. Right now the sc has nothing wrong with it, is well sorted after three years of ownership and I really enjoy how engaging the car is. Any opinions welcome?

Has the AC been upgraded?
Personally, I wouldn't touch an 84-89 w/o the AC being done.
Different strokes for different folks...
Fresh motor rebuild = very good. Great car when the ventilation system has been upgraded to normal standards.
Good Luck.

No a/c upgrade, owner does claim it blows cold with old freon. I am not looking for a daily driver so in any event the a/c must be better than my sc's. Does $17,000 sound right for this car.

IMO
+/- , yes.
Assuming the body is in good shape, no prior wrecks, clear title, pass PPI, etc.
In this economy you may be able to obtain it cheaper than in good times obviously...

Car checked out great

The owner had all documentation from previous owners and $6,000 in parts receipt from the recent rebuild he completed. Owner was very knowledgeable of most cars having a 70' cougar completely restored and wanted only to change out one car for another project. The car drove great mechanically nothing was wrong with the car and I can see why most people would prefer the G-50, much faster than my sc. Exterior all original two door dings interior good the dove gray does appear to show age faster than some other colors, but was presentable. I am probably going to pass as I don't like the added weight and civility of the newer Carrera. Maybe when I do longer road trips and really need a a/c will I change my mind.
