My first 911
 

Here is the scoop. I am have just purchased my first Porsche; it is a 1980 911 SC Coupe- with sunroof. 104K miles, It came with SSI HEs, Monty Exhaust (2-in/1-out), Momo leather steering wheel, 16" Original Fuchs Wheels, Carrera Tensioner, Airbox Pop-off valve, Upgraded and calibrated 150mph Speedo faceplate on original unit, New Front Brake Pads and Rotors, New Fuel Filter, Valve adjust recently, Clutch done at 92K mi., Compression test: 175, 180, 185, 180, 185, 180.

The interior is super clean and in near excellent condition. The same goes for the exterior, save only the normal rock chips on the hood and 2 other small chips on the passenger side door.

The PPI was done by Don's Autowerks in SF. He gave the car an above average rating, and noted that mechanically, the car runs very well. He also found no rust or body discrepancies.

I paid 14,800 for the beast...

Okay, lets get down to work!!

First, buy Waynes 101 Projects Book and read up on filter replacements, adjusting valves, fluid changes, general tune-ups, etc. You'll save a bundle if you do your own work.

Second. Once a month add a longneck bottle of Chevron Techron and fuel up to 1/2 tank to clean the injectors and cylinders. No need to drive crazy for this stuff to work. Change oil within 500-1,000 miles after use. Wonderful stuff.

Third. Consider Swepco for the next 915 transmission fluid change.

GET A SUNSHADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That beautiful dash will crack in you do not protect it.

Drive it!!!!!!!!!!!! They love to be exercised.

15,500 was the original asking price. He sounded very sad to see her go.

I bought the car while being deployed in Iraq- am still here-

I had been searching for the past year and a half. Everywhere from lots when I was able to be in the US to online. I also had to deal with my wife as devil's advocate to ensure I was not being impulsive.

I found this one in the Excellence Magazine classifieds and contacted the seller right away to get more information- after conferring with the wife I arranged to get a PPI done. I went with Don's Autowerks after talking with him on the phone. He shared that he is a former member of the 101st Airborne and a mechanic that works in his shop used to be in the 82nd. When he found out I was currently in Iraq, he personally made sure that things went smooth with the sale- did not even charge for the PPI (with compression test) done on the car.


The car will now sit at his shop while he does some upgrades on the suspension and we try to find some RSR wheels (7 abd 8's). Once I return from here in April, I will pick up the car in SF...it should be a great welcome home for me.

Normally I would say that $14500 is on the high side for an SC, but it looks like a very nice car. The extra money you spent will be saved in the long run. If it drives as well as it looks, you did fine.
They say that the SC is the best 911 you can buy as your first car because the motors are reliable and relatively problem free.

I am sadly not going to be present when the first upgrades are done. But I plan on getting my hands dirty as soon as am back home.

I was told that the car should be pushing a decent amount of power (200 +)- thanks to the SSI HE and Monty exhaust, I am curious if there is any way to improve on that.

I am budgeting money for the upgrades, right now the plans is:

Bilstein HDs, torsion bars (21/27), strut brace, Turbo tie rods, replacing brake hoses, new ball joints, Balance and alignment, and a new seat belt.

I would like to get some RSR Fuchs instead of the all black ones I have, and increase the wheel size to 7 front and 8 rear. I am also interested in a ducktail to compliment a front valance.

I am so wrapped up in this, am wondering if I should get some professional help!

I was admiring it's ad a few weeks ago.

Please leave it basically stock looking.
I get compliments on my white SC for that very reason.

Mine is lowered with 7 and 9s
( making it look more aggressive while saving a stock appearance)
oh, I have the rubber lip spoiler on the front too.
Euro H-4 headlights. Still have to get some paintable rings.

Again, great looking car that you can be proud to drive as is !!

Price seems right too as the condition all looks good and a properly sorted sc should bring 15,000. You might just want to slow down on the upgrades until you get home to drive it. Feeling out each improvement is a lot of fun.

based on what you tell us and the pics i'd say you made a very good purchase.

it's just not all price with these cars. you look to have bought a good one.
