My 73 coupe for sale

Well I have had my 73 coupe listed for sale for close to a month and I have had no serious interest in it yet. I have had several emails and phone calls, but thats it. I am not really a motivated seller so Its no big deal, but I thought that I had priced it fairly for what it is.

I was planning on using the money to build a hot rod 3.2 out of my 71. It would have made the wife happier if I sold one before starting another, but she wont say anything if I don't sell the 73.

So am I out of line with my pricing or just the wrong time to be selling a longhood. Here is the add.

Thumbs up

I have looked at your ad and believe its in a good price range...nothing wrong there.
Timing, on the other hand, couldnt have been worse....this economy is heading for the toilet...
you'll sell it...only it'll take a little longer, that's all...

I agree. I would take the time to clean up the odds and ends it will make for a cleaner ad and easier sale. Does the car have any rust issues? How does the motor / drive train grade out? These are areas I would stress as they are both criticals in a quick sale. I love your car and its look! Post on other early car sites.

the early 911 market is softening, esp. for anything that isn't a top level restoration, or low mileage original, etc.

Couldn't agree more. It'll eventually sell. I think you did a great job on the car. If I had room I'd be on it.

I would put the stock trim back on it and fix things like the horn etc. A no appologies car will sell much faster and better than one where the owner admits there are some small issues. Buyer logic is that if he can't bother to fix the horn, what else did he not bother to fix that is more major.

Also hurts that it is a CIS car.

I agree that I need to fix the last few things. The problem with the original trim is its scratched up and doesn't look good next to the new paint. After working on the car off an on for 4 years I was just excited that it was finally drivable. I'm thinking now I will probably just keep the car. I don't plan on dropping the price anyway. I don't agree that its being a CIS car hurts it. Some like the 73.5 CIS cars.

The big problem for me is its just too hot to drive a non air car here in the summer. Now that's its starting to cool off I'm getting excited about driving it again. I was planning on using the money on the sale to work on my 71 and put a 3.2 motor in it. I think I'll go ahead and start on the 71 this winter, its just the wife would have been happier if I didn't have two old 911's at the same time.

Here is an update. I didn't sell the 73 and instead of putting the 3.2 into the 71, I put it in the 73. I'm not sure how this may affect resale down the road, but I figure if I drive it enough it wont matter. The 2.4 wasn't the original motor to the 73 anyway.

The car is a blast to drive and it will be my daily driver till it gets to hot to drive it. Then the boxster will come out. I figure the swap into the 73 was cheaper than the 71 since I have already done alot of work on the 73. I may end up putting some webbers on the 2.4 and putting that into the 71 at some point. But due to the economy, it will have to wait.

I really wish I would have seen this ad earlier. I just bought a 1980 SC. Are you still considering a sale? If you are I'd like to know what your asking price is? I would be very hesitant to let go of a beauty like this as well.

At this time I don't plan on selling. The car really is a blast to drive and I highly recommend the 3.2 swap. Ive put on a few miles now since the swap and plan on driving it anytime the weather permits. I'm retired so my driving is back and forth from the golf club, approximately 60 miles round trip. It seams like the more I drive it the better it is. I didn't get much interest last fall @ 20k and now I have put more money into it.

I plan on just driving the wheels off of it and getting my money's worth in grins. At least until I do something with my 71, which I don't see happening anytime soon. I'm sure that if I sold it now, I'd regret it later.
