Can anyone tell me how many 1978 Euro turbo's were manufactued and are they considered rare? The vin # is 9308700391. i was told the car was imported from Brussels, Belgium. Here's my delema, I started taking the car apart only to find out the motor needs a full rebuild. I've been quoted $23,400.00 cdn and i'm having a hard time on making the right decision. A little bit of break down on the 78 year.
1978: 911 Turbo 3.3 Coupé 9308700001-9308700735 1978: 911 Turbo 3.3 Coupé 9308709501-9308709561 [Japan] 1978: 911 Turbo 3.3 Coupé 9308800001-9308800461 [US] By my understanding yours would be #391 of 735 destined for Rest of World 1257 Total.

Think 930yyc has got you covered on the manufacturing data.
The term "rare" I think is both mis-used and misunderstood in it's use for the car market as a whole. In terms of the 930 they're not rare, desirable to some but certainly not rare. 78 & 79 930, basically the same car. As far as a Euro/ROW 930 of that vintage, there is not a whole lot of difference between it and the US cars of the same era other than the EPA and DOT requirements. DOT included: glass, safety belt buzzers, door beams, compression shocks to mount bumpers, head & parking lights and lenses. EPA included: smog pump and related bits.. Remove this stuff & it's just like ROW. As far as your rebuild, what's your mileage.. what's your issue/s? You could always set that motor aside and buy a good used 930 motor for $10k or less, plug it in and ride! Rebuild the original motor as time and fund$ allow.
