Your Thoughts on a Pretty Nice 1971 911T Targa

I like to get your opinion on the market value for this car. Although I am reluctant to sell it, I don’t have time to drive it either. I might need some therapy once its gone as well.

Pretty Nice 1971 Porsche 911T Targa which appears to have lived in the San Francisco bay area its entire life. It has been re-painted a really cool blue/green color over the original sephia brown. The paint is excellent except for a few minor chips and one small dent. This car was not driven after the paint job so these are gargage chips.

Most of the exterior seals and trim have been replaced with new or in some cases repro parts (horn grills). The car is completely stock and original except the color and the seats. The seats are out of a clean 69 912. There is no rust on the car and it has lived inside for at least the last ten years. It runs pretty well and pulls strong to redline. Runs and drives like it should. The 2.2L liter engine is stock except for the distributor and carbs. The Marelli has been replaced with the correct Bosch and the carbs are re-bushed Webers which set me back $1800. I was going to put a 3.2 into this car, however decided to take a different direction.

The Good –
No rust 1971 911T Targa
New interior – OEM German silverknit, new door panels, rear seats, rear shelf re-dyed black
New dash – OEM replacement (have the original as well)
New windshield
Recovered steering wheel
All body seals replaced – door, hood, window (windshield, targa glass, targa seals, door windows, vents, bumper seals, engine lid…
Targa Top rebuilt by Dan Petchel
New clutch and pressure plate
Rebuilt pedal cluster
New exterior trim, Porsche lettering, hood badge (have original)
New tires
Refinished 14” fuchs
New trunk carpet
New shift linkage
Gas tank – boiled out and repainted
Oil tank cleaned and painted
Rebushed/ rebuilt weber carbs
New ignition coil
New oil lines, engine seals (oil cooler, thermostat, rocker arm, valve covers
930 Valve covers
Turbo tie rods
New H4s

What it still needs –

Gas tank venting – needs to be checked out
Some minor electrical – hazard lights, interior dome light not working properly
Alignment, ride height
Horn – needs a new switch
Window washer needs to be hooked up
Some paint chips and a couple of small dents
Drivers side seat is split (have replacement seat cover)
Engine still @#$% drips a bit

Thanks for your interest,
Chris

How much do you think that it is worth.
You know the car better as we.

If offered on ebay in this current temperamental market, mid- to high-teens $K is what I'd expect to see......... with all of the new bits on the car the high end could be $20K depending on US dollar weakness if an overseas buyer takes an interest. Toolkit + any paperwork on hand?

(re: dashboard: just my Porsche hack/ brotelligence but I thought the '71 oem dash was the type with separate rectangular speaker grille insert--
or was factory spec dash configuration dependent upon radio-delete/ factory radio option ? OT I would really like to know this once and for all regarding correct oem dash year by year, speaker insert or diamond shaped perforation-- never took the time to pin this detail down from Zimmerman, Schrager or Ludvigsen texts).

If non-Porsche paint color, looks good but that is something that a prospective buyer would probably want to see in person, at least I would.

Not sure what you mean by the gas tank problem/ pls describe venting symptoms exactly.

very nice car

I would buy it for mid-teens .....what would you think you need bottom line from the car?

I am looking at the same car but a 1972 911T......color same and targa....but has some rust in rocker and some surface rust from TX...but it well documented and rebuilt motor at $10,000..........your car could bring 20k, but I have been watching ebay and the cars have a high reserve and don't sell........
