Crashed 1996 993 Turbo/worth?
I picked up a 993 turbo with extensive front end damage. I know the motor was rebuilt with major upgrades by a very reputable shop last year. The motor has less than 3500 miles since rebuild. My first struggle is the value of the motor and trans? Next is should I sell them or look for another car with no motor?

15-20k would be my guess. If it's a well documented rebuild, maybe a bit more.

I doubt seriously that engine and trans could be had for 15-20K ,looks as though quite a few
RUF upgrades were done either prior to or during rebuild. New turbos and plumbing,100 cel cats ,exhaust, wheels, bumper, who knows what else.. Probably at minumum even in this market a 25k eng/trans package..call RUF centre in dallas tex,ask what those upgrades alone might run, that'll start to give you a picture, Bert

Sure looks like the car was on fire. While the engine might cost big $s to duplicate, it's not worth squat until you know it is in good working order.

I want to thank those of you who replied. I do realize that 38D/Colin has a very valid point. Yes, the car did catch fire and took a major impact to the front. So if the motor has been affected during the crash what value is there in parting it out? If the damage is minor what does it cost to have this motor rebuilt? I,m new to the Porsche scene and really appreciate all valid advise that can be given. I did contact RUF in Texas but was told they don't deal in wrecked cars which I respect.

Cost to rebuild a twin turbo motor with RUF upgrades is in the $10-20k range, depending on the number of parts replaced (for example Ps & Cs) and the extent of the rebuild (just top end, full, replace all the valve or not, head work required, etc, etc).
