reaching the euros? 67 911

Hey guys -

I'm wondering - what with the euro at $1.40ish again - if this car is destined for a trans-atlantic journey, and how I might facilitate such a thing?

My car - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=477596 - 67 Normal with a 4spd and S-brakes is in decent enough shape to have no regrets in shipping her off to some far off land, but how do I reach those guys? I know a few of them are active here and on early911sregistry, but are there other sites that this 3 owner, CA car in decent condition should be advertised on?

The people that have been out have been very interested and knowledgeable, but no money in my hands as of yet. One was ready to pull the trigger and then had the 'honey is this really the right thing to do' speech from is sig-other. damn, they just don't understand us! Of course she was in her final month of pregnancy and on bed rest....but still, come on, guys need these things!

while I'm asking - if you happen to read my post and description of the car, am I being toooo realistic about the condition - a bit too candid? this thing is in great shape and the people that have seen her are very complimentary of the general condition....

any help very appreciated....

When I sold my 72T last month, I listed it here, on the Early S registry and on thesamba.com. To my surprise, I received as many inquiries from thesamba.com as I had from my post here, but far more Euros came from samba. One of them eventually bought my car, and I had two other serious European offers in addition to the buyer. It was a bit more of a hassle, as I had to load the car and deliver it to a transporter, and I had to deal with an international wire, but still a relatively easy transaction. My suggestion is that you take more photos, especially of the underside and the typical problem spots that most knowledgeable buyers will want to see, and that you post them all to a photo site. Short of this, you could try ebay, as it still gets tremendous exposure, but I find it expensive and results are mixed. Your car looks very nice, btw. Good luck in the sale.

Thanks for the response - one question, how did you manage the transaction? who trusted who that the payment would be made and the car would be sent? did you use an escrow agent? I'm still somewhat in the dark about how to actually how to put the thing together.....

thanks for the samba site lead....

He trusted me more than I trusted him. We exchanged numerous emails and I provided more photos in response to his queries. He called me several times, and I asked him for references for prior purchases in the US, which he provided. After we agreed on a price and terms, he wired the funds directly to me (I set up a new account to accept the wire, as I didn't want to give him my regular account number). Once I was comfortable that the wire was confirmed and irretrievable by him, I delivered the car to his shipper. I was a little uncomfortable with an international wire and spoke to my bank about it at length. Since my buyer has other purchases in the US, and had some contacts here in the form of family and an established shipper, it was my initial preference to receive payment through one of them, but this was going to take too long and I didn't want to lose other prospective buyers. I had wanted a deposit in order to hold the car and reflect the buyer's commitment, and we tried to do this via PayPal for $500, but PayPal ended up putting a hold on the funds for some reason (which made me a bit more suspicious). Ultimately, he sent a wire for the full amount and a copy of his wire confirmation from his bank, and that was enough for me to take the car off the market pending receipt of the funds (which took four or five days). It was easier than I thought.

You might want to put it on www.mobile.de (German's biggest car site) and on www.autotrader.co.uk

It can't hurt to post an ad on this site, too.
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/classic_cars.php?keyword=&make=35&category=&region =&country=&advert_type=1&price=8&era=6&Search.x=48 &Search.y=9

I used to send USA collector cars to the UK as a side business;
there is a small cadre of diehard enthusiasts in GB who are not necessarily put off by a labor-intensive fixer-upper, even left-hand drive examples.

Current fcX pegs British pound at $1.63 which means there is potential to fetch a decent sum there.
