Question Opinion on color - replacing 1984 Carrera

Hello guys,

I am shopping to replace my 84 Carrera, which I destroyed in an accident in August. I was lucky not to be hurt seriously. Car was great, coupe black/black, 108,000 miles, at 1 litre of oil per 5000 miles ! It also had white face gauges and original good shape leather seats. I owned for 3 years and 15,000 miles - just a great car.

I am hoping to remain in 1984 to 89 crop, but I am uncertain about the color. In the region where I live, there are absolutely no 911 whatsover, so I never get a chance to see any of these colors with my own eyes. I live in Eastern Canada, in northern New Brunswick.

I think black is a classic color for the 911, but I also like white. I am hoping to find a coupe with not tail (at most a ducktail), no sun-roof. I will remove A/C as it is not required here.

WOULD YOU ANY OF YOU GUYS COMMENT ABOUT THE COLORS. I KNOW IT IS A MATTER OF TASTE, BUT I DO NOT MIND READING OTHERS' OPINION.

IS IT TRUE THAT WHITE CARS ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO RUST ?

I have included a photo of my car, taken about 2 weeks prior to crash.

THANKS

JCFL

too bad about the car but at least you are back in the saddle. black is a classic color you can never go wrong. i'm not sure if white cars do rust more but wouldn't see why they would. mine is white.

nice shot of the dog riding shotgun.

Black is high maintenance, but there aren't many cars it doesn't look good on. Mine 83SC, 944, and 928S were alls Guards Red and if I ever own a Porsche again is will be black, like my current BMW. I think white works better on cabs and targas, and I've never heard of white rusting faster than anything else.

I think they look great in just about any color, but Guards Red with black & polished Fuchs is my personal favorite.

I think its just easier to spot rust in a white car then on other colors. Thats why it might appear that white cars=more rust.

since where you live there are not any 911s, you won't see yourself coming and going with a more common color (red, silver, black). if i were looking and where i live, i would look for a unique colcor so i don't see myself coming and going. there are some neat shades of blue, green, yellow, etc that i really like.

Get the nicest one you can find and don't worry about color. All 911s look good!

White is low maintenance

I really enjoy driving my white car and bringing it home and garaging it and not worrying about cleaning it. On the occassions that it rains the car still looks good. i thing all cars rust equally as stated above on some cars it is easier to spot

Hey JC, I'm in Frederiton and just bought a red/tan interior car. I have always loved the red - second choice would be white. I had a Honda dealer tell me that the two worst colours for rust are red and white, something to do with the pigment in the paint. Out Pathfinder is white and it does seem to have more rust than others of the same year and mileage. You do really notice it - that could be all it is. Not sure if it would make a difference with the galvanized body.

There is another red one hear for sale that my mehanic owns, it's an 86 coupe, red, black interior, about 100,000 miles and in very nice shape, I think he wants 25 for it. It's at York Auto ask for Andy. Well worth looking at if you every come to Fredericton.

What happened in the accident? Do you still have the car?

Richard
