1970 911T considering buying
I am considering buying a 70 911T targa that I found for sale near my house. The guy is asking $8k. The body is in great shape but it needs some work mechanically. It barely runs. I am guessing either timing issues or carburetor jetting issue. Any dead giveaways on what could be wrong? Also anyone want to take a shot on the value of one of these in descent shape? The car has 65k on the odometer and the owner has records back to the day it was imported. I would say the car could be a very clean driver with very little effort. Thanks for the response.

Run down there right now and buy it before it's too late....Ask all those other questions later.

I will give you the same advice I gave a good buddy last year who had a '67S fall into his lap. It was on a Friday afternoon as well. At the price he was quoted, I told him go down there NOW and put the money down on the car. He hesitated but then went and put down a couple of grand to hold it.
The next day the guy had done a bit more research as to what he had and several people just showed up as well(typical feeding frenzy). Had he not agreed to a price, wrote up a quickie deal and put money down he would not have gotten the car. So what are you doing this evening?

I talked to the guy today and told him I wanted the car. He agreed with a handshake. I didn't really want to push him to take a deposit. Hopefully it will work out. He seems like a pretty upstanding guy.

Everybody is a nice guy until somebody else offers them more money
![]() I even had a case where I found a 930 in Cali (I live in Fl). I spoke to the guy via phone and wired him a $500 deposit which he received with final purchase pending the results of a PPI. Again that was a Friday and the PPI was set for Monday morning. On Monday he called to tell me he sold the car.... I'm like WTF? What was the deposit for then? He said that in Cali that's how they did things a deposit didn't mean much, I was far away get used to it.... Weird part was he was very well respected on the "other" forum. Good luck, let us know how it turns out....

OK. So I bought the car yesterday. Picked it up and took it straight to a trustworthy mechanic to get the motor sorted out. I have a question though. All of the original sale documents are in German and the car wa shipped over from Germany. Is there a euro spec model this year? If so, how do you determine the origin?

Boy I don't know what the differences were back then if any. Probably minor but it's time to go to the early S registry for all your follow on questions. That's where the real brain trust is. Congrats!!!

Post pics vin and motor #s to determine origin.
Euro should have H1's, Euro lenses etc, but if imported back in the day those would have been changed in order to meet US DOT regulations. '71 Euro T's "should" have Weber carbs but my US delivery '71 does instead of Zeniths, there are many discrepensies. |
