A Decision to Make
So, I need to share a bit with people who understand. I currently own an '88 Guards Red cabriolet. I have spent quite a bit of money getting it the way I want, i.e. 7's and 9's, new top, front/rear spoilers, etc. The only thing I really have left that I want to do is to put turbo flares on it. It has about 127k miles on it, but it runs very well. In fact, over the summer, I dropped the engine to fix "all" the oil leaks. So, like I said, I'm happy with it.
My dilemma is this. I have always been a little bothered by the fact that the car is Guards Red. I love the color, but EVERY 911 is red, black, silver, or white. I really would like something a little more unique. So, I've found an '88 cab, just like mine, but it's Pacific Blue (I think) with 64k miles at a dealer. I'm curious as to your opinions on the possibility of a trade or something. As far as value is concerned, I'm not sure what to do. I bought my car for VERY cheap, so I'm sure I could sell/trade it for better than what I have in it, but I'm not sure if it's worth all the hassle just to get a cooler color. What do you think?

I like red, I would keep it. Going through a transaction like this just for color is a steep price. But, best of luck to you.

Alan, I'm with you. I have an '86 Guards Red coupe that I have decided will be another color when I decide to do a repaint. A good repaint will cost you between $5K and $9K depending on where you live, amount of prep work you do and body work needed to be done. If you could sell your car and but the new one for the difference in cost of a paint job, I would do it.

Alan,
First PPI is mandatory, then assuming it passes, from the info you provided I would say go for it. As long as you can get most of your money out as you indicate. You can swap the wheels out so no loss there and you get a car with half the mileage. Only problem I see is that guards red is a great Porsche color ![]()
