Looking at 2 911's need price help

Hello , i am looking at two cars and need advice.
1st car is a 1969 911t targa, one repaint to orig,(red) out side is a "6" very little rust, one spot in rear seat area on the floor, dime size, claims motor was rebuilt(no records) inside is a "6" also, i know the car needs at least $1500 to get the brakes, shocks etc. To drive straight. Really is a project car she wants $8000

the other car is a 1974 911-2.7 a very nice repaint to orig(red) little or no rust, surface.out side is a "8" the inside is ok for a driver. Motor is strong(again claims was all rebuilt but no records), trans is very sloppy but works, sunroof, again will take $1500 to set up brakes, susp. Right he wants about $8000-8500

what are the highs and lows of these cars in price and desire in the current market? Thanks in advance

Both cars are priced fairly.

Porsche was not galvanizing/rust proofing 911 bodies til the 1975 model. So the 74 is no different then the 69 for rust protection. I had a 1974 911 and had to replace my floorboards and it was a southern car! Chicago winters and salted roads could nail these cars over time. In the long run the 1969 will yield a greater value over the 1974. Early "longhood" 911's are becoming very collectible and if you plan on getting it back into great shape it will have a higher resale value then the 1974 in my opinion. For Porsche purists, the 2.7 engine in the 1974-1977 model was not an all time favorite and required rebuilding to take care of all the issues. Thermal reactors and high temperature played havoc on the casings and these engines leaked oil and were known for broken studs. The 1974-1977 body however, was innovative and the next generation up from the longhoods.

Do not let the pretty paint job drive the decision. You will need to get a pre-purchase inspection to get all the details before making a sound decision on these two cars. The money you shell out for the PPI's will pay in the long run.

Good Luck
